Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Sorry your so flooded. We r still looking for rain down south. Its good u have raised beds. Praying ur chooks r ok. When I was in tropics we often lost them due to wet weather. Has your drainage been worked out from the 2011 floods?

  2. Time to get your boat out, Mark or you and the chooks might need to get the floaties on LOL Love that shot of the roo, ….boing, boing boing as he/she skips away. Looks like you have to invest in better redirection drainage for the shed or it will damage its foundation. Thank goodness for the birdie garden beds.

  3. Keep an eye out for snakes! Floods mean snakes. They'll be looking for a safe dry place so make sure you're careful in the shed. You might be able to get some of that extra produce out to the local food bank (if you have one) for those people who got hit hard.
It's raining down here on the central coast too, just not as bad. My todler has been stomping around the back yard in gum boots just absolutely loving it. No idea how bad this could get

  4. take care mark, stay safe mate,we had the same here in hervey bay last week,we,re out of flood here but feel for the poor people in maryborough and my own home area in the clarence valley northern nsw
