  1. I layer mine in cardboard boxes with brown paper between the layers, then store in an unheated room. Works great for me. Can you do a video when you plant the ones with the long sprouts? I can't see how you will handle them and would like to know how. I don't get many like that, but there are usually a few that get like that.

  2. My daughter just gave me a ten pound bag of potatoes that I will be using for seed potatoes. She had forgotten about the bag that was stored under her kitchen cabinet. They are perfect for my needs; little sprouts and tiny roots are ready to go. I usually like to do the traditional St. Patrick's day planting here in zone 7B. They are sitting in my garage right now.

  3. I grew some inside my house this winter in a container! It's so easy…just put in a window so it gets sun. Check out my own YouTube channel where I share this info and much more.

  4. You don't even need sand just keep the small ones in a dark cool dry frost free place in a container cover loosely. Over winter. And in March pick out the best shooting best condition potatoes to plant.

  5. Wow to hear you talk about these temperatures where you got up to 40 and 50, I’m North Queensland, Australia and for about 3 weeks a year we go down to about ..your equivalent of 56 and this is only early early morning for a few hours, if that. Then it’s straight back up to about 73 – in your terms at the highest temp of the day. Is it possible for me to do this or not?

  6. Not surprising as I use sand to store my carrots in too. Looks like they got warmer on the bottom of your pot. I control the temperature and check regularly to keep it just above freezing. For the first year I bought seed potatoes. I've never bought them be for so we will see what we get.

  7. Mine are in the pantry sprouting right now. I have another month before I can plant outside. I may start them in a grow bag under grow lights inside then take them out. We will see

  8. Call me crazy, but I actually like it when they get "leggy". If you can get them in the ground without knocking the long sprout off……you already have a HUGE head start on getting ahead of the weeds! Not long after planting them, they will green up and leaf out. Before long you have them shading out the weeds!

  9. Am new to this whole growing thing. What is the difference between seed potatoes from your own harvested ones in the fall or from the store…and ones that have seeded at home from purchasing a fresh bag to eat from the store? Thank you!

  10. I live in an apt. I have yellow potatoes that I left in brown paper bag under my kitchen sink. They have plenty of roots. Last I check, none was rotten. I'd better go and check on them. I don't have where to plant them. I am thinking of putting them in a five gallon drum. Mine has more roots then the ones her is showing and I didn't do ANYTHING to them.

  11. good old time saving seed yes that what the grandparents did before an we still do now to save your seed till planting just break of the stems an put back in the sand till planting time good luck take care
