If you don't have a greenhouse / polytunnel, you can transplant some brassicas indoors like a houseplant. Obviously depends on variety and your space etc. I had them on a sunny window and got 2-3 months more leaf productions from pak choi and chard I took inside. Downside was they had aphids and they took over but by that time there was little sunlight anyway so out they went. Do be careful if you have other plants indoors that outdoor pests would infect.
Hi Huw, I've been using the plank method ever since I saw it on one of your videos, it is incredibly successful and I tell everyone about it! I do make sure to look under the planks every day to check for our little slimy friends- this becomes another advantage to using this method in keeping down slug numbers!
Great tips! I'm going to try to plank tio for my carrots this year. Just remember that a large bucket of water is a drowning hazard for young children. If you have any children/grandchildren/etc, it might be better to stick with filling your buckets directly from your rain barrels.
Leaving potatoes in containers is a storage option over winter? What other crops could this method work for? Carrots?

Thanks for the great plank tip Huw! I have used it with success on my carrots before but never thought of using it on lettuce or beets. We live in a desert area in Idaho, USA and keeping things moist is a never ending effort. You might have mentioned it before but sowing carrot seeds via a corn starch gel is a great way to plant them, eliminating much thinning. Love your videos. Thanks and best wishes!

another hack as a microgreen grower is sift out your seed especially brassicas and sow those seeds in 4" pots etc….those are the biggest and strongest with the best traits…the tiny ones are usually duds or half broken seeds and will fail immediately or over the long haul anyways.
