I love listening to your videos. They are funny and informative. I just learned I can have 6 chickens on my half acre. I would like to get laying chickens. What type would you suggest? The plan is to get educated on animal husbandry and crop sowing before making the move to a large homestead in near future.

Do you recommend this for raising meat chickens? We’re about to get meat chickens for the first time.
I'll be getting my first chickens ( chicks) in a few weeks. I can see fermenting will be the way to go for cost effectiveness. Boy howdy, my head is swimming with chicken info. I've learned a lot and have so much to learn yet.
I give my hens grain free cat food, salmon, they love it

That is helpful information on wetting the chicken's food, I find that my chicken's waste so much of it when it's dry, it usually ends up on the floor of their coop!
I noticed this last year while hosing out the cage and splashed some water in the feed bin. They went crazy over the soaked food.

I work a a butcher shop. An idea, though I don’t know how healthy it would be for the birds, is to ask your local butcher for the stomach contents from the beef and sheep they slaughter. I intend on testing it out on some meat birds this summer. I’ll keep you posted if I remember.
Our small flock during the spring and summer almost don't even touch their feed. Too many goodies out around the house for the to forage on. Its also the time our egg yolks take on the super orange glow. We basically only need to purchase pellets and scratch for the late fall and winter months.
