Great job on the pasties! They look delicious!
Would Gluten free flour work for this dough?
I mean this in the nicest possible way but how can Renee have a son old enough to be married?!?!?!?
Omg!! Pasties originated in Cornwall England for the copper miners to eat, the thick crust was so that they wouldn't be ingesting poisons. This is disgusting. You would NEVER use wholemeal flour or use a hot water pastry!! The meat is disgusting you use beef shirt in 3-4" cubes, same size with swede, carrot, onions and potatoes. Seasoning is just salt, pepper. The meat does produce its own gravy, but some people now add an oxo cube. This is just vile. Using what we call mince is awful. What you are making in a savoury pie, definitely not a neat pasty.
Tip for using the peeler. Instead of only peeling on the down stroke. Try moving it up and down fast so it peels in both directions as you rotate the carrot or other thin skin produce like carrots. It goes super fast! I would say it will be 3 x as faster at least.
I just found that cookbook at a thrift store for $4! Can’t wait to see you make recipes from it ☺️
Can the pastry dough be frozen like pie crust?
I really enjoyed this episode. Those pasties look delicious.
So much easier and simple to weigh things like butter, lard, shortening, etc.
Wow! Those are beautiful! ❤️
What electic pressure canners do you guys use? I've been really excited and wanting to can. Ive only frozen jars and dehydrated. The pressure canners are a little intimidating, but I'd prefer it to waterbathing. It seems way more beginner friendly to have a hands-off pressure system. Thank you
I’m would love to try and can Renee’s curry,Turkey and lentil recipe. Could you tell me where I can find it? Love your channel! Thanks!
This my first time hearing about pasties. I've eaten plenty of pastelillos and empanadas. I really like how generous the servings in these are, though. Very hearty. I'm also glad to see you have a great relationship with your MIL. I am not alone in that after all.
Glad you showed your beef stew. Mine looks the same and I thought I’d maybe done something wrong. I’ll pop one open this weekend and test. Blessings. Wonderful video.
I love pasty with butter on it! They look delish!!
Love those pasties , can't wait to make them hopefully with my daughter in law
I love this idea…..Becky doing visits to other kitchens! Renee is such a natural in front of the camera as well.
we have a place 3 hrs drive called London Calling that serves traditional pies… $10 each and half the size!
i have heard/read about 'water crust' and am wondering if it would be suitable for fruit pie and cream pie shells or only applies to more rugged applications? and… now that coal mining is a whole new ballgame.. is it really necessary to include the heavy crust roll.. or is it 'just traditional therefore necessary?'
What a lovely lady your mother-in-law is! Your husband is so lucky to have the two of you!
WOOP for UP! my family is from the UP as well!
Hubby is from the UP! Love pasties! ❤️
I grew up with my mom making pasties. My parents were Scandinavian. We raised our own beef and veggies and potatoes so they were cheap to make for our large family but to us they were a treat!
There is an awesome dicer attachment to the Kitchenaid mixer that makes potato cubes that size in 1 min flat! 🙂
The pasties look so delicious!
So i noticed the recipe for the hot water crust doesn't mention how much salt to add. Is this a preference or a mandatory set amount needed to add? I for one, cannot wait to make these for the first time! Thank you!!
