VIDEO: Restoring a Pond That Has Not Been Touched in Over 10 YEARS!

We bought a new house! With the house came a pond that had not been touched in over 10 years. It was overgrown, it was a mosquito magnet, All the fish were gone, and didn’t allow for any space to plant new edible plants and landscaping.

We contacted Ed the Pond Professor and he decided to take on the task. A special thanks to Ed, Greg the Pond Guy, and Aquascape for helping make this project happen!

  1. I have 24 feet of pond pieces to sell. Just too expensive now to complete. It would've been my 3rd and biggest pond. Fish kept bugs down alot. I put in raised beds there instead. A good sunny spot.

  2. Wow! Congratulations Luke and family on your new home! Very nice from what I can tell. Ponds can be a pain, but I got a feeling you will do well with it. You need to keep on top of them, kind a labor of love. Looks like where my friend with the pond lives in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The yards are like yours. Very happy for you!!

  3. I can't tell you how many times I had to fill up the pond from evaporation. I got to the point of having to divert rain barrel overflow into it. Then there was the times I found many kids playing around in it. Mine have eventually got holes in the lining from age, and mischevious aforementioned kids. I like to have Alliums in them because they are different.

  4. Congratulations! 5 years ago we moved my family of 7 from a small 3 bedroom 1,400 sq ft house with a tiny yard in an HOA to our 7 bedroom home over 3x the size (and a basement for more space) on 3 1/4 acres with a 1/2 acre pond and a creek. We couldn't be happier! (Except maybe needing a bigger kitchen and a larger yard.) Enjoy the new in-betweener and the projects!

  5. Just had to watch this video before I went to bed… Only because you didn't have part two done yet! My grandpa had a concrete pond at the right side of his front yard underneath two big cedar trees. Every 5-10 years we would fill up a garbage can, let it sit for 24 hours, scoop out all the gold fish and then clean the pond down to the bottom. He had two large square boxes at the bottom that he kept the lily pads contained in and at that point it made it easier to take care of them. At that point if there was any leaks in the pond we fixed them. No flowing water of any sort but the fish, once the ecosystem was back in order, kept the mosquito population way down. Looks like you have a beautiful backyard and now I can hardly wait to see the end of product of your gorgeous pond. Didn't know mint would growing a pond but at least that plant was edible! If it's deep enough and you have the money I would definitely go with a couple koi fish especially if you don't have wild animals that like to go fishing or swimming!

  6. Ohhhhh I don’t think you know how much I love edible-pond builds. Lol congratulations on the move and I can’t wait for the next episode!
