Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. We learn so much in our gardens, nice getting great advice and ideas from those with a great deal of experience. All part of the fun, problem’s this year I didn’t have last year, learning how to fix them, selecting plants for my particular space and sunlight.

  2. You cannot over-fertilize if you do not use fertilizer that is formulated to literally force feed your plants. Feed the bottom of the soil web and let the soil nourish your plants. Gardening can be a hands off experience, all you need to do is put the plants need first. Just like serving a community.

  3. i learned from Dr. Elaine Ingham that that soil, in almost all cases, has everything plants need to grow, and we just need to promote the microbial and macro soil life to convert it to the bio-available forms the plants can uptake. Compost tea !!

  4. Hell yeah. Grows the plant too fast for it's roots to keep up with and more importantly ammonia/nitrogen runoff is just terrible for the environment.

  5. YESSSSSS! Another wonderful and funny short! You're my favorite green thumb and I hope someday I'll be half as knowledgeable about growing food while trying to live my best life like you do.

I'm currently unemployed living in a tiny apartment supported by my loving fiance, so each video you post gives me something to look forward to when we finally have space to call our own..
