VIDEO: HUGE No Dig Vegetable Gardening Project (Only 6 Months Old!)

I am so excited to properly share this huge no dig vegetable gardening project called Dan Yr Onnen (Welsh for Under the Ash) which we started from a blank canvas 6 months ago and has now turned into a productive permaculture inspired growing space which I couldn’t wait any longer to share! I hope this gives you a lovely introduction and I would love to hear your thoughts, questions, and ideas!

  1. Looks impressive! Honest work by you and the team. One thing I wish you put more care into is water – building small ponds all over the place (the bigger ones could be eventually used by the ducks as well), swales, etc., just so you store a lot more water directly in the soil, instead of storing it in containers and essentially making it unavaiable unless you water – of course, you still need to harvest some for watering, but maybe it's something you can think about (or even have planned as a winter project).

  2. I’ve been dying to see an update on this project! It’s looking wonderful, so much has happened in six months. No question your shop will be a huge success – quite jealoua as I’m in Australia.

  3. I’m currently teaching gardening to Year 9 pupils at our high school on a rotation basis as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and we donate our produce to local causes. I’m a novice when it comes to vegetable gardens so your help and advice has been great, Huw – thanks ever so much!

  4. Congratulations Huw! So exciting not just to see this, but hearing the other plans that are lined up. You are really inspiring, visionary, passionate and big-hearted. I remember the little boy and his first videos on YouTube (the one where you were with a lizard?), how precious to see how much you have grown and achieved, and yet how much you have remained grounded and humble.

  5. I'm so impressed with everything you have accomplished in such a short time. It's so beautiful already. I'm particularly interested in the coffee grounds experiment.
