  1. I have four hens two are great egg layers and the other two not so much . They are two different kinds so I chalk it up to that .

  2. Patera, you have talked having a book about the old ways, could you please tell me again what the title and author is? Thank you so much for answering me, I have forgotten the name of it.

  3. I have a wonderful black austrilope broody hen. We have no rooster so I replace her eggs with duck eggs and she hatches them out. She loves her ducklings and takes excellent care of them. I find the ducks grow up more calm and tame with a hen mama. So cute.

  4. So how do you know what eggs to leave to be sat on, when you picking up daily eggs for eating? I don’t have chickens but I’ve picked up many eggs in my younger days. Didn’t consider they might should have been left.

  5. I have a broody hen now – a year old and 2nd time broody. I don’t plan to grow my flock and don’t have a rooster. Should I let it run it’s course or try to break her broodiness ? Thanks for input

  6. My girl is broody but I only have hens….I'm not sure if I should try find fertilized eggs or just wait for it to pass. I don't want to discourage her broodiness because eventually I'll double my coop size and I want to try chicks but I can't….right now.

  7. What a great idea. Thank you for sharing the tote brooder set up. Much better than what I've been using. We have a nice incubator, but I'll be the first to say that I get a far better hatch from my broody hens than I do in the fancy box. The chicks hatched by mom are way more healthy and thrive better than those hatched in the incubator. We are heavily dependent upon our chickens on the farm, so we use both methods, but those birds hatched by momma bird then to live and thrive better than the others. Again, thanks for sharing.

  8. Our homestead has been under attack the last 2 nights 2 domestic pit bulls came on our property and chewed through a double fencing of twisted hog wire/chicken wire in 2 pens then our larger fence and killed our livestock had cages hanging 5 feet in air and they chewed the toes off rabbits please make video on fencing barriers as the owners of dogs quit feeding their dogs this will become everyone's problem
