Serina is sick, and making it to the farmers market will be a challenge since she does almost all the flower harvesting and bouquet arranging. This week is the last of the Lisianthus, so it would be a travesty if we couldn’t make it to market with them. The cosmos, marigolds, amaranth, and sunflowers are all producing as well, so what are we going to do? Our farmers market season will soon be over, so every market counts, and there will be lots of time to rest soon enough, but right now, we need to make hay while the sun shines. This video also provides an update on our veggie greenhouse, lots of tomatoes, eggplants, and cucumbers in there, and it is nice to show them off.

When a farmer is sick, it is all family hands, including baby hands, on deck. Good of Ian to make bouquets. I do think Serina has a flare for the bouquets, but Ian's looked fine. I remember us kids doing a lot around the farm when my parents had one though, and I was oldest at 6 years old when we left, so I think the kids can do more. (Though it is possible they already do more and just are not shown.) I remember doing a lot of planting and weeding and watering when I was little. And helping my mom kill snakes and feed the chickens, etc.

Why don't you just make smaller bunches of one kind of flower and let people make their own bouquets. Seems like a lot of extra work.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and it seems that you may need to think about how you organize your time and what goals you want to achieve each day and follow them without getting distracted. It seems that you plan one thing and you do something different, and everything counts if you want to achieve what you want including resting time. Health is essential to have a successful business, especially a business that is physically demanding likes yours.
I always worry about Serena’s health when I see her pull those all nighters. Take care dear.

Wow! Feel better. There are subsidies available to hire. I would never personally, as a professional farmer, use volunteers (don’t find it super ethical esp if it’s a for profit biz imo) and when I started getting subsidized workers (the gov pays for a large chunk of wages) helped me a lot before I got the tools I needed to be more efficient. YESP and CSJ are just two examples.

I've suggested Serena host bouquet making classes…I think you could make a good chunk of money off of that. My other idea is that you offer a "bouquet bar" package in which you charge maybe 300 dollars and provide like 6 buckets (or however many would be reasonable/profitable) and set them up at parties with the brown paper and a bucket of snips. At the most basic level, all you have to do is provide the materials and then go back to pick up you buckets. For another 100 dollars Serena could stay for an hour and assist with bouquet making. Flower bars at bachelorette parties and bridal showers are becoming super trendy.

You are doing a great job! One suggestion from one flower farmer to another- You need to do heavy harvesting flowers all week and keep them in your cooler until bouquet time. Leaving Thursday for your flowers that can't stand the cooler, or last minute harvests. Just a suggestion to make your week a little smoother and right before market less brutal.

Have you tried selling straight bunches instead of bouquets? We have started selling dahlia bunches and sunflower bunches and they are popular. So much less work than arranging too
