OMG Patara, this is EXACTLY how I store my rice, beans, potato flakes, sugar, flour, etc. Way to go girl!!
I have found that the oxy absorbers will be weak and almost hard by taking one at a time from the jar . I now get all of my bags ready to seal and open the jar once and they work great
I absolutely love my food saver
So what would I do with sugar. I have it in gama sealed tub now, but didn’t “prep” it in any way
When I use a ready made bag and don't have enough to fill the bag…..I seal at the end of the bag so I can cut it open and then reseal it.
Could I just freeze the beans and rice a second time to insure no eggs survive? Rather than baking.
We need to get more dried beans.
Hi Patera, this may be a silly question but I'm new to this so please bear with me. I was just wondering if the beans you got were fresh of if they were dried? If you buy dried beans do you still have to bake them?
I understand all in the video. Thanks for the information. However, do you freeze beans/rice in the original package it came in? TIA
Why did you bake the beans?
Thanks for sharing. I did all that except I didn't bake my beans and rice. And I stored my rice in a food storage bucket with the oxygen absorber. now I'm kind of thinking or hoping that there's no bugs in there because I didn't bake the rice. I stored my beans and myler bags. The next thing I do is want to get that machine that you have vacuum sealer thingy.
another thing I do when vacuuming my bags of beans or rice, I put something to elevate the bag so it vacuums the bag of rice more flat for storing the bags, or just hold up and shake out flat once I’ve closed the heat bar on vacuum machine. I love to file fold the bags upright to optimize my storage in storage crates … JillyinSD
This was so helpful!
❤️
I am shopping around for a vacuum sealer. Which sealer does everyone recommend? It is just me I would be storing food for. Thanks!
Tip: Always wash your rice prior to cooking. When you submerse you’re rice in water, you’ll notice a cloudiness appear. All of which are the chemicals used to grow the rice in the fields….you must absolutely wash your rice at least 5 times until the water is clear. Washing your rice will prevent any type of arsenic poisoning.
How long do these beans last once sealed before you have to eat them
I wouldn’t have thought of this. Thanks!!
It never occurred to me to vacuum seal beans for barter, excellent idea! I happened to be watching a YouTube video recommended to me by a guy who calls his channel "I Allegedly" and he mentioned Patera as a great person to follow. I said, "I know Patera, been following her for awhile!" Thought that was a great shout out for you!
Does this keep your beans from going hard and unusable?
I add a spoon of my home made vegetable powders to my rice waters for added boost.
Love the process gf!. I like the freeze/warm to get rid of any bugs! Portions are very important. I have my absorbers myself.
Side note….o2 absorbers also work well as hand warmers in a pinch…hint hint
FYI, using mylar bags with oxygen absorbers keep food much, much longer than using food saver bags.
I've done this in bulk. But now that I have a freeze dryer I'm cooking, freeze drying and then sealing in Mylar with an OA. But as with everything I'm using everything in my tool belt. Canning, freeze drying, freezing, dehydrating and using my fermenting crocks for pickles and cabbage right now.
Thank you, I didn't know about those processes.
