Bummer. I totally screwed up lol. I'm in zone 6a and only could find soft neck. Then I picked off most of the paper. I was planning on using my 100 gal grow bags lol.. Should I wait until spring to plant them? Will they survive since I already picked them out of the bulb?

Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I do have a question though. I planted my hard neck garlic last Fall with the exception of mulching and upon harvesting it in summer it was a mushy soft mess of garlic cloves that did not germinate??? I used garlic heads that I bought from our local Farmers Mkt. and wonder if they were a hybrid possibly? Also I live in Upstate Newyork. What are your thoughts if I might ask?
Has anyone tried growing garlic in containers in zone 6?
My soils Ph is 8 and with years of help I've got it to 7. Our well water is 8 as well so one step forward one back. I have also become an advocate of adding potassium to the soil of everything I plant, including garlic.

Hey Jeff, I love your videos! I notice that you do a lot of content around garlic (not complaining) and I am curious as to why it is such a staple of yours. How do you use your garlic culinarily? As far as I know, garlic is mostly used as an ingredient in other dishes and you emphasize it so much, does it have other uses or perhaps many health benefits? Why is garlic so important to you? Again, I love your content and thanks for making such great edutainment!
Hard neck garlic does just fine in warmer climates it you refrigerate it in a paper bag for 2 1/2 to 3 months before planting late November, early December.
Hi! Love the video, this is the first time I’m planting garlic and I live in the Chicago area. I opted to plant the garlic in tote containers that go under the bed. I drilled them in the bottom for drainage and followed the depth and spacing recommended. I also mulched with straw. I’m hoping this will work, by next year my father will have made the garden beds in my yard. Waiting on him to build it is what caused me to get creative since he still has not gotten around to it. Do you think this alternative method of container will be a failure?
My first frost date in my area is January 2nd. Isn't that a little late to plant garlic? Shouldn't I start planting earlier?
Just planted some garlic today! I planted some in containers last year, but none of them made it. I hope I learned from my mistakes this time around. Last year, I peeled them before planting and I think I overwatered them. I added some sand this year to help with drainage and I added an extra layer of mulch to deal with our harsh winter.
Another great video from you. Was there any liquid fertilizer in the initial watering?
Great info Jeff, I tried growing some garlic about 6 years ago in a 25 gallon tubs with great failure. I live in zone 6b here in the states and my yard is nothing but rocks and crab grass. So I have to grow in tubs, that year I planted my garlic it started coming up and it turned off very cold and by spring they had all rotted. Any suggestions?
