Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. That is a great puppy. Never give up your dreams. There is no perfect time for anything. Some times are better than others, but there is no perfect time. God has perfect timing. He is the only one that does. It will all work out. Just trust him and make the best of it.

  2. I got my first Standard Poodle in Jan followed be his two half brothers 6 months later and they are the best puppies and we have ever had. You will be over the moon with this puppy and so surprised how chill she is! I can't wait to watch her grow up with your sweet family,

  3. Lulu is quite a dream. She's precious! I love how you and Jeremiah go out of your way to make the kids dreams come true…even though it's probably not dreamy to have one more training to do, I know she will be a blessing to your whole family! ❤️

  4. I almost didn't click on it because I am not at all a dog person and sometimes dogs in videos by dog lovers just think everyone is equally as in love. but this wasn't oh aren't dogs the best look at my cute dog this is a story of little knowing in his knower what he wanted and waiting and looking but filling that voice and getting that lulu and how special that is for that boy that he was excited to clean poop. he truly wants that and waited and it is a beautiful thing made me cry this story reaches beyond dog people. I actually have a strong fear of dogs that I have worked hard to settle down. I live near lots of dogs it so very stressful for me I want to walk on a beautiful day and every dog every block every side of the street I just walk by on the sidewalk and they bark there heads off 8 to 10 in the less than one mile to my kids school and I can't drive I am out some dogs the master might discourage barking or be indifferent some dogs are barking hello but often and this could mean twice a day five days a week we have no practical option but to walk past 3 dogs barking at us to go away as we walk on a sidewalk and its hard to not reinforce the feelings of fear when daily animals are trying to scare you because that is there training I live in a no pets allowed cottage and at one point I was surrounded on three sides by five dogs one trained to bark the biggest trained to not bark but tied up outside and two with no training constantly getting loose are being teathered so he could reach two feet from my door and it heard me open my door and run towards me barking its head off but I couldn't see the tether and the dog was often loose like daily it chaced me humping my leg and my neighbors shamed me for being afraid I finally reported this non sense and it got better. they were " emotional support animals" it baffels me how anyone who has such a significant need for emotional support they need a prescription and work around so they can skip a no pet policy for an untrained dog and be clueless that others might have fears and phobias and dislike being molested by a predatory animal. I want to feel safe in my home and walking down the street and gardening and I need prayer finding a place I can be not surrounded by hard dogs. I don't hate dogs but I get so upset but its all about how they are trained and I love that you understand the work necessary in training a dog not just providing basic needs. that is a good looking dog

  5. Besides the obvious Amanda's Dream and Ben's and the adorable puppy and priceless reaction to her. I almost cried when you spoke about the beauty of Appalachia and liking to see beautiful things that nobody but God could take credit for. You put into words what those of us a Lil less poetic feel. It made me wonder Do you have any native American especially Cherokee in your blood someplace? up there towards Ashville and where NC and KY and TN are is the original home of the Cherokee and your heart sounded like those Cherokee Ive heard talk of those Smokey mountains. I was born in FL raised in NE but my Grandma was Eastern Band Cherokee born somewhere up by Asheville and my heart calls it home. Both my parents were born in Appalachian mountains. it feels like home.

  6. If you're expecting a high strung standard poodle, I'm betting you'll be surprised. I've owned them for 3 decades and never met one that wasn't brilliant, obedient, and an amazing family member!!

  7. We had a miniature poodle growing up and my cousins had one too. They are smart and sweet. You won’t be sorry you got LuLu! We would get her groomed once she reached a baby bear look then she would get her Summer do and looked 50 lbs smaller! My Mom always asked that they leave some fur at the ed of her nose because typically females get their noses clipped down. She looked sweeter with the furry face. It’s nice they don’t shed and are hypoallergenic too. Congratulations to you all especially to your little dreamer!
