I had an issue last year with such a mild winter they sprouted so early. They bulbed up fine though. And we had very little frost as well in the UK
I like your instructions. A lot of people talk to much and go on and on never getting to the point I just need to know how to do this . I like the straw . I wish I had the space and money to do this . Soon. I have a few plants . Just soaking in the info for future

What happens to the individual clove that you plant? It seems like it would basically disappear during the growth phase of the plant and be completely replaced by the new bulb, basically giving up all of that stored energy to get the plant started. But I've never actually checked as the plant grows, since I didn't want to risk losing the new bulb.
So what are you using as a source for your garlic, store bought or nursery bot? And if you're using store-bought how do you know if it's warm season or cool season?
What would be some good companion plants, vs ones to never plant near garlic?
I'm in the South, so currently have my garlic, (soft and hard) stratifying until Dec.

You are a great help to a lot of people.. but… please don't recommend peetmoss.. Nature works without coco, vermiculite and peetmoss.. There is a problem worldwide.. Peetmoss is a soil made in thousands of years, we should not take that from the earth when we can also do without it as well.. it frees co² and that is a huge problem..
Hello Jeff, thanks for this great video. I tried growing some garlic a few years ago and it was a bust. But, after watching this video I’m going to try growing it again next year here in SWMO US zone 6b.
We've had crazy warm and wet weather atm. Yesterday, it was 22c during the day and 14c at night in London! I currently have the bulbs sitting in the fridge until it is ready to plant. We planted them at the beginning of Nov last year but it was far too early.

This is such a great video. I've never grown it before. You answered almost all of my questions.
I have a 4 foot container on the side of a building which is under the edge of the roof. Would that be an OK spot to grow it? Also, can I plant soft neck in the winter in zone 6? It's all I can usually find.
When I stuck all my pots together in zone 5b last winter, they froze together and all the garlic froze to death anyway. They also froze to death in my raised bed the year before that. This year, it's containers and they are going in the unheated garage. My fingers are crossed that it works this time.
