  1. I live in Idaho where yearly precipitation is 12 inches and it rarely rains for five months in the summer so I bury all my garden and kitchen waste in a dirt pile. Eventually this waste decays and once its "gone" I add this "soil" to my garden. I've tried red wiggler worms but can't keep them alive. I am considering a dedicated compost area in a location where I can better manage the moisture. To supplant my lack of compost I purchase composted cow manurer which is very consistent in its composition and when mixed with my garden soil, gives it a better, "lighter" texture. Its nutrient value is questionable as some of the trees, bushes, and garden plants I grow require additional feeding. Any thoughts?

  3. Jeff do you chickens? I haven’t heard you talk about using their waste?
I’m using it in my compost and when building a new raised bed.
I never know if it’s too hot until I plant.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Blessings!

  4. Thank you for helping me get more enjoyment out of my gardens. I had a good compost year and had enough to refill my 8 beds. Got them all covered in shredded leaves for the winter here in Michigan. Refilled my compost bins also. I was wondering about coffee for nitrogen in the compost. You talk about spent grounds, but what about the leftover coffee. Would that be a good add nitrogen and water to the pile? Thanks for what you do.
