Hi. Do you need to cut leaves to the ground? Straw should cover completely, or just around the plant?

This is my first time planting Strawberries myself. I have two, 1-gallon strawberry plants together in a 10 gallon growbag in zone 6A. I am going to put the bag against my fence, along with other growbags that are filled with dirt but no plants. If I put it in my dark garage, won't it die?
Been trying to grow them from seed. Not doing so hot so far.
I have strawberries planted in a Green Stalk tower. Will they survive winter in a shed in zone 5b just west of Chicago? It gets as cold as -27 Fahrenheit here.
I murdered my strawberry plant in the good season. It may have been where I sourced my plant, but I did not help it any.
My plants are in pots and in the garage as of a couple weeks ago. Ive been watering them about once a week. I hope they make it!!

You often talk about Zones (In this and several others zone 7, or colder). When I research it, I can only find 7 zones – 1 tropical, 2 subtropical, 2 temperate and 2 polar zones.
It's not them, since the polar zones would be the coldest…
I live in Denmark, which is in the northern temperate zone, so I don't expect to be in zone 7 or colder. But would like to know which zones you are talking about.
