Yawn. Honestly I don't care for those who did not prepare. Think of the 10 foolish virgins in scripture. We prepare because THAT is how you succeed and live.
Appalachian folk will survive. I am so grateful for the 10 years I lived at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mts. in the Shenandoah Valley. This sweetheart of a woman makes me think it's time to go back and visit some dear old friends, maybe look to settle. It's getting pretty cold and ugly here in the city.

Well Patara, you have scared the H*ll out of me. You're speaking truth to power. People better prepare to the best their abilities. Please let me share this with my fellows. You may not have a lifetime's worth of prepping like Patara, but do remember this (from someone who knows, a soldier/historian). There will be many people–small groups, elderly, people with the tools (seeds, land, tractors, etc.) who will need people to work the ground. Unless your net worth is over $10 million dollars and you've been preparing for years, YOU will need helping hands. I don't know if you understand the cost of freeze dried or prepared foods, but unless you are very wealthy, you are going to need to replace your food stocks out with freshly grown food (veggies and meat). They're also going to need guns. Oh, they've got the guns, but what those guns needs are people to carry them. You obviously don't think Patara's family isn't armed to the teeth. They also don't have enough food to take care of family and friends for more than a season or two.
Patara and her nice family have a number one priority to feed, house and protect these assets. That's where the guns come in. Do they want to harm a fly? Of course not, but if they gave all of their preps to strangers, they would soon starve. What is a "gun,?" it is a trustworthy person, willing to work and protect the family or group that has chosen them. You don't think these good folks are sitting on a fully supplied farm with stores of food waiting for rogues to come and take those supplies? Be real!. Their preps are their lives. They must be protected at all costs, down to the death. I am in this game as well. Do I want to smoke a homeless, hungry person to protect what I have? No, that's insane, but then I have the choice do my people live or do strangers (who cannot produce their own food) live off the food stuffs that I've spent years planning to happen, while dumb people watched TV? As a good believer I have to take care of priorities.
A good prepper prepares a little something for the homeless, hungry and poor. After that the Bible requires you to turn one cheek then another and then when you're out of cheeks you put to sleep anyone who is dangerous.
If you are not a prepper, God bless. You don't have to suffer and die. People like Patara in the beautiful world of East Tennessee and elsewhere will be a fall back for good people. God bless and keep you and while it is possible get out of cities. Move as far south as you can. I live in a state along the Gulf Coast. I can grow enough food on part of my property (100'x 50") to feed a family of 5, there's just one of me. I would use the help and provide food and housing for a family. For fun, I am from Boston and didn't grow a garden until I was in my 20s, plus I'm right on a lake full of fish. This isn't about bragging. It's all about surviving. My advice, get off your arse and watch enough gardening and chicken growing shows here on youtube so that you can be useful. If you want to switch over to Netflix, give yourself an hour and get back to work. Keep notebooks full of information that you learn.
