  1. You have a calcium deficiency, which can be caused by ceased transpiration from to dry or high humidity conditions. Also, head lettuce is particularly susceptible to tip burn in humid environments. I would also add some air movement across the plants Small fan on low.

  2. Thank you very much for the video Tikki. I did NOT know that the iceberg variety is so weak on nutrition density. Finding crunchy and delicious lettuce is not easy on markets.

  3. I am a little stunted in my food/wine tasting and ability to describe features. I am an 'I like it' or a 'Yuk' kind of guy and lettuce has always been a semi-annoying part of Salad. I do however consider it to be an essential ingedient of a BLT and suffer it accordingly.
It also occurs to me that you are being cruel to animals, Dear and Rabbits in particular. :-).
I love your presentations and unfortunately miss many because YouTube does not e-mail inform me of thing for a few years now. Coming out of this mini-hibernation we have endured for the last couple of years and at the beginning of the growing season this is a welcome reminder of bright things to look forward to.
    Many Thanks.

  4. I'm wondering what you're feeding the lettuce. I wanna make sure my plants are getting the right nutrients so the I can get the most out of my homegrown salads.

  5. I eat healthy but still feel a little guilty while watching your videos. Thanks for the kick in the pants… On the subject of drain/fill and short plants, have you given serious thought to a rotary garden? You seem to be increasingly tech-tolerant with your growing.

  6. Funny that the seed packs show the crops being eaten by pests like snails & caterpillars! If I saw a seed pack with a potato beetle in the picture at the store, I would put it back on the shelf – feels like a bad omen! Interesting video and cool to see the ebb & flow setup running. I'm sure you'll have some good salads in your future!

  7. Thanks tikki i planted Pablo lettuce about 2 weeks ago inside under a 6500k square light all is well even my orange hat tomato are doing ok !!!

  8. I took your advice on growing Black Seeded Simpson in my Kratky jars and they’re doing great, so thank you! (That tiny bunny at the end of your video was the cutest thing. ❤️)

  9. ❤ I love all of your videos! I love your voice and the way you explain the videos! I like to grow my own greens as well but I don’t like to use grow lights since I live in warm Southern California. Do you use indoor lighting when you grow in your sunroom? Just curious!
Have you ever tried growing lettuce outside hydroponically in warm weather? Mine seems to like it! Although I have to grow in cool weather or in the shade.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge!❤

  10. I'm growing prizehead at the moment along with buttercrisp. They are growing hydroponically and seem to be very happy. I have iceberg also, but I think I'll grown them in a microgreens batch I'm working on.

  11. I am growing COS and iceberg in kratky style. I could never get sompson to germinate, so I'll get some new seeds to try.
I like to harvest outer leaves and let the plant keep growing from the center. I am growing outside in a pop-up greenhouse so it's cool enough but my bok choi is going to seed after several months of continuous harvest since last fall.
A good Reminder is to start new seeds every couple weeks for continuous planting and harvest.

  12. Question for anyone willing to answer: I collected seed from a Green Ice lettuce plant that bolted. The lettuce of the original plant has a different texture and even shape than the lettuce leaves that are growing from the next-generation seeds. The growing conditions are exactly the same. The original leaves had the texture almost like Romaine, strong and crisp. The next-generation leaves are weak/flimsy. Thank you!

Tikki O: you have taught me everything I know about hydroponic growing, and especially the Kratky method. I have been successfully growing for 2.5 years. Thank you for all the time you put into your videos and your excellent teaching!
