Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

My comfry plants are just as crazy growing as the horse reddish and I love it!
Seeds down into your heart…❤️❤️
I have one artichoke still growing after a hoard of grasshoppers ate the others last season. Glad you have edible chokes. Glad your barn has the new baby chick and poult stall done. Wonderful. Yes, your comment about the golden light is so true. Thanks for all you do. I know Hallie will go to a loving great home so your selling her is right.
❤
I'm thankful for living in a city where a drive to the country is only 10 minutes away.
I would like to have a discussion with the ancestor who looked at an artichoke and said “yeah, that looks like food. I’ll try that.”
It was your garden a few years back that sent me into the journey of a love for the garden and I still don't have my farm but my dream of running a community garden is coming true at my work and I couldn't be more thankful that you planted the seed in me of what tremendous joy the garden can bring us ❤❤❤
Jess-I am not a photographer, but I too love the golden hour light. ❤
My husband said to me this morning… for me to watch your videos, Jess, is like the testimony a person holds onto and says, "if God can do it for her, He can do it for me." ❤ I remember the first video I watched. You were telling us how to make money on our Homestead. That was so many years ago, now… I used to watch you and Justin and I didn't even know I was dreaming.
I loved this video Jess, I also live on a 100 acre farm no animals, and tomorrow I am going out to my sugar shack in my house coat to light the fire I have one more day of boiling maple sap. next weeks weather sounds awesome plus 15 great for central Ontario. getting ready to plant seeds indoors.
I LOVE that brooder stall! And seeing the lambs. I’m saving up to fix up/finish off the barn that was partially started when I bought my property.
So happy I found your channel today!! We are months away from starting our homestead and I cannot wait for evenings like this. ❤❤❤ sending love from Oklahoma.
Use a serrated knife to cut the tops and stems. I grew up in artichoke country!
Our Fig trees attract a massive amount of mosquitoes. Don’t plant too close to the door.
Do you think it good idea to plant that invasive plant in woods. We are always been warned about invasion plants in our bush in Australia xx
You really are the sweetest girl and I wish I lived close enough to come have a cup of tea with you. You are right about dreaming of living on a farm because its been my dream for so many years. I don't think it will ever come true but I can watch your videos and live vicariously through them.
Horseradish is wonderful and was used for oral health….
Mikahla Peterson just did an awesome interview with a woman about another aspect to find some healing (very carnivore related): https://youtu.be/-xt-0yJBGTs
You have been richly blessed by our Mighty God who loves and cares about all of our dreams and hopes along with our everyday challenges, He is there with us.
How big is your barn as a whole? 80 acres wondering if 30×30 would be big enough for family stock. Not planning on selling any.
I need to do this with the end stall in my barn. I am cleaning the junk out of it now, this would be a great next step.
I love the light reflecting off the SnOw! My heart belongs in the north!
Do not plant a fig tree anywhere near your septic. Also if you plant it where your temporary garden was you will block the view of the farm from your houseguest. Google the root system on that variety before planting.
