  1. Holy Cow! I saw years ago on I believe Oprah some ladies who had a newsletter called the Tightwad Gazette about frugal living. When I first got a computer and got online I was looking for it figuring it must have gone to an online format, but I could never find it!!! Thank you! Thank You!! I am so excited I am going to find it on Amazon, used of course! 🙂

  2. I got her newsletters, I'm pretty sure the pronunciation of her name is 'Decision'.
The skills I learned from her meant that when my FIL got married in Florida we were able to go and do Disney on the trip without going ridiculously overboard. We spent less on a ten day trip for four then most would spend on a five day trip for two.

  3. I saw your suggestion for "The Tightwad Gazette" & as a young stay-at-home mom on a very small income, I decided to check it out in the library. I've had it less than a week & I already feel it's impact on how our family does things.

We cracked the bottom of a plastic pitcher, so that it won't hold liquids anymore, but it's otherwise intact. I decided to tape the bottom & the spout to make it airtight, than put my husband's granola cereal that I also made inside. Nothing wasted!

I'm already recommending this book to as many people as I can.

  4. i remember getting the tightwad gazette when they were still individual news letters. she convinced me that i should do things like make baby food long before it was popular. it really was what started things for me all those years ago. i didn't know there was a book collection to be had. i need to get one to set on my book shelf between my copy of "Nourishing Traditions" and my 1949 edition of "The Wise Encyclopedia of Cookery"

  5. I loved it too. The big lesson i got from her was to multiply your costs/savings to an hourly wage. She is awesome! Btw, her name is pronounced like decision. Who would guess that? Ha! Enjoyed your endorsement!

  6. Oh my gosh! I know I am watching this a year after you filmed it but I had to comment. I was waiting to see what the book was and I kept thinking to myself " could it be as good as the Tightwad Gazette"? I laughed when I saw that you were talking about Tightwad Gazette. Love this book. Made a big difference in our financial lives.

  7. I used to get her newsletters back in the day and then bought all of her books. There is a wonderful tightwad Gazette Facebook group which is very informational.
