This video shows how I make turmeric powder 4 different ways with the skin on, skin off (peeled), raw (without cooking first), and fingers for grating over foods or drinks. I also compare the different types of turmeric powders and conduct a taste test to see which type of turmeric I prefer the most. Enjoy!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started SSM in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Great video – so informative
thanks . . this video is what i needed;
Can I put the pieces in my oven to dehydrate I don't have a dehydrator
What about the pepper?
Doesn't high temperature affect turmeric properties?
Wow, thank you, I just spent the morning harvesting my turmeric and now looking how to keep it. Your video is definitely informative, and I can't wait to give this a go. Cheers for sharing.
Thank you Mark, for your patience and effort, very neatly presented.
Hi, I liked your presentation but I have a little info may make peeling turmeric that you haven't mentioned in this video.
Peel turmeric the same way you peel ginger, with a teaspoon. It is so easy to peel with a teaspoon and no risk of cutting yourself.
Works a treat and I have just this morning peeled about a kilo of my homegrown turmeric and will now dry it using your method.
Just wondering is it boiled as well to kill any possible pathogens?
Excellent presentation. Thank you.
Really awesome vid, thank you, learned so much..
Very beautiful garden. I'm in Chennai from India. No garden in Chennai.
Love it! I grow my own turmeric! This plant is amazing.. I just made a video on it with bonus on how to make Golden Milk: Check it out: https://youtu.be/_Fgig_X422g
Better than average thumbs up to thumbs down ratio, lolz. Turmeric must ward off trolls as well : )
I think without boiling and skin off turmaric is the best
Great job friend!
Great
Wonderful, informative and very useful video
After all that heating from boiling and dehydrating, seems that a huge amount of the curcuminoids would be destroyed. I’ve read that the curcumin is very heat and light sensitive.
Thank you so much for this video, exactly what I’m looking for. Had a decent harvest of tumeric and needed a way to preserve its goodness.
Thank you!
Why my turneric sa dark after i dried
Favorite gardening channel!! Favorite gardener!! Other than myself of course! Thanks brother!
You don't need sugar in your curry.
How long does the raw powdered turmeric last? Does it get spoiled?
