30 thoughts on “VIDEO: ROGER TALKS PRUNING TOMAOTES

  1. We use tomahooks (tomato hooks with about 25 feet of the baler twine wrapped on them-sold by Johnny's or Nolt's))..we used to tie directly to the wire like Roger was showing…great video guys!! Wish I was there!!

  2. make another Roger tomato video at the other house where they are taller. Very interested in hearing him explain the latter stages of pruning and what is different there.

  3. pruning tomatoes. so I guess what wasn't fully addressed was the leaf mass required to keep a plant producing fully, do the tomatoes produce more leaves than they need? I know there are drawback from cutting too many leaves, it can't photosynthesize, so taking off leaves is like unplugging your solar panels. why would you downsize? what do you gain? and also, how do you decide what's enough, and not enough?

  4. I live in TN and I directly planted some suckers. However, only about 25% survived. We get a lot of rain here, so I recommend putting them in water first and then planting later.

  5. Hello from France ! Thank you for this nice videos with qualitative content. What kind of string is it ? do you re-use them ? If yes, have you got any pathogene issues ? Do you Lean and Lower them in later stages of cultivation? What do you think about rollerhooks?

  6. This by far is my favorite method.. simple, easy to access, fast and effective! Thanks for the uploads, really appreciate your effort!
Oh, and another way to get a 'starter string' in instead of using a stake, is to 'plant one at the same time as you plant the tomaotes (haha).. Take care brother 🙂

  7. Hi Curtis,

should I wait until the flowers become fruit before pruning off the lower branches? or can I prune as soon as the flower cluster appears? Thanks!

  8. Why tie to the wood steak instead of the tomato plant? Just wondering since I just started market gardening and I have attached to the base of the plant.

  9. Do your tomatoes ever suffer from sun scald? I occasionally get some sun scale on the south row of my high tunnel if I prune really aggressively. Also does the wind blow there? Here in Wyoming my high tunnel is way more beefy than yours. 65 mph wind yesterday :(. Love your channel. Really great info!!

  10. I don't know why but Roger reminds me of Trump in a lot of ways. Not to say that i think he's bad person just the gestures and his speech very similar

  11. I use a mooring hitch knot on top of my strings. You can then go up over the wire and tie it off lower so you don't need the foot stool every time you take it loose to wrap. it. I will do a video on it today to show you how it works. It's a huge time saver, others may find it handy too.

  12. hey there, one thing that wasn't clear in this video for me is this; do you remove all the suckers or do you leave some on the plant? I'm trying out the way you grow the tomatoes myself this year, still have lots to learn 🙂 any help is appreciated.

  13. Suckers = Gourmands in France ^_^ lol mdr
Une couverture végétale(Mulch, BRF, déchets végétaux) de 20 cm sur le sol = no plastic sur le sol … no plantes sauvages …
