Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂 #preserving #homegrown #homesteading

G'day Everyone, I hope you enjoy the video! Please forgive the terrible echo sound and darker image but I did my best to improve both. You might have noticed my uploading being a tad random lately and this is because I'm working towards posting 2 vids per week as I have lots of ideas and content I want to share. I'm experimenting on ways to streamline my workflow whilst still striving to improve my filming and editing skills. Also, please check the description above (below the video) if you are wanting more info about the products I mentioned as I often link to them. Thanks for your support! Get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Great for preserving your dry humour 🙂
The plastic on the dehydrator will get sun rot and fall apart. Need a blind over that. I was out in my shed one of my plastic stands is crumbling from sun.
Great videos, mate! I appreciate all of the knowledge you share. And you seem like a genuinely kind dude!
Hi here is New Zealand how can I buy freeze dryer machine you think?
Rubber camping mat from Kmart stops all vibrating
Great planning on the area. This is spotless. I wish to get a nice place like this for me in the future for my projects
U make chorizo with that god?
Hi Mark. Video request mate. I have put in 60 various types of fruit trees. We have a lot of possums here in NZ and I am trying to work out how to control pests. Do you have any tips for a video. The possums here in NZ are classed as invasive pests so often we will do pest control and use the animal as fertiliser so it’s not wasted. A bit hard to hear for some but it is common here in NZ. Would love to learn what you do for rats etc as we have put in a few types of nut trees. Thanks mate
Love you my big brother
Oh man I really want some good preserving vids from you now. I pickle, ferment, pressure cook, dehydrate, and preserves. I'm always looking for more ways to preserve the fruits of the garden labor. I say a snippet of dehydrated tomatoes in jars with olive oil? That's a new one, love to see that.
what company did you buy the tables from , can they be bought in USA?
Hey Mark…did you order from the states direct? I'm in Aus….sorry if this has been addressed but over 500 comments is a lot to go through.
Great idea. Everything in one place. Interesting bag sealer also. I've improvised to make smaller divided bags.
Would love to see a video showcasing some of the finished product.

Does your affiliates deliver in europe? Ive tried looking at there websites and cant find any freeze dryers or your raised garden beds.
How energy efficient is all that?
like your setup
yeah mark, I like your set up. Thumbs up.
Love your set up! Could you build an sound insulated box for the motor, maybe even piped through the wall to really quiet down the noise? Also an insulated box for parts of the machine to help keep it from absorbing the ambient hot air? If you so a little renovation on the area, with increased wiring, you may as well add a utility sink counter too! Tell your wife the money you save on food is paying for it!
