VIDEO: Permaculture Earthworks and Wetland Ecosystems Part 7

Permaculturist John Nelson leads this workshop focusing on the importance of harvesting water for the use of irrigation, erosion control, diversion, and storage on the farm and homestead. We will explore the concepts behind earthworks and permaculture as a land harmonizing method that utilizes earth forms such as swales, berms, terraces, ponds and pumping systems. We’ll examine these concepts and their practical applications at our Living Web Farms’ new Permaculture Earthworks project. In part 7, John begins by talking about permaculture practices at home beginning with water collection.

  1. Hi, I recently bought a small piece of land that has little terraces up the slope at the back (1/4 acre). Is it possible to or even worth putting in small swales in some of those terraces? Are there any alternatives? It seems to be sandy soil with little to no organic matter and in a drought prone area. I'd like to be catching as much water as possible.
