If yo build it they will come. When I did a haybail garden, everyone told me to inoculate it with fungi. I didn't, yet I still have a thick pack of mushrooms on cool mornings. Nature fills all habitats

I find it hard to get seeds started in wood chips, if you get them started they will help brake down the chips.
Would be interesting to combine wood chips and legume cover crops.

Things are starting slow at 6000 feet in Colorado. One out of every 10 seem to die off and the rest look sort of OK

It's been my experience with wood chips that things grow slower at first, then take off and surpass the in-ground plants.

Hi Mark, I had to replant some of my sugarsnap peas, they didn't even sprout. The purple blooming variety is doing very well and just started to bloom..they all are planted in 3yr old oak wood chips..tomatoes are going great, lots of blooms and tomatoes, potatoes were slow but made up their growth and blooming now. Crazy spring cold and wet then 95f for 2 days..more heavy rain later next week. God bless.

This is great. We're finally getting into our garden. We have far more square footage in two year old wood chips than we do rows of compost in the wood chips – and an abundance of vegetable starts. We're going to plant some in three different locations to see how they grow – so this is VERY encouraging. Thank you!

It would have been cool to see a comparison between planting directly into wood chips and then a controlled grow in soil. Just see if spring had the same affect on both!
