Another way my great-grandmother taught me to forecast the weather is to look at how thick the walls are of the pumpkins that are grown in your area. When I cut open my first field pumpkin from my garden this season, the walls were so thick! I am outside of Chattanooga for reference.
thats amazing!!!!!!!!
We tend to look at wooly caterpillars and they've said we are getting a cold winter. (In Michigan). It's already wintery here (early).
Very cool . Thank you kindly for sharing .
OMG i have never heard of such a thing, this comes as a complete surprise to see those little utensils inside a seed….I believe we need to listen to nature it tells us a lot.
I like to do that if a hurricane is scheduled, I watch the animals and the birds and even house pets too. Thanks for sharing!
That's so cool!
I'm way north of where persimmons are hardy.
I'm in Va close to TN soo.. yikes!
You can have & keep all the snow you want. i am not ready to be cold, cooler is fine.
That's pretty clever! Nature talks if we listen. Thanks for sharing this tradition.
Texas ,my husband said if moss grows on the north side of a tree trunk it will be a bad winter in your area north texas here ,some moss on our trees
My go to is spider webs. My garden is full of orb's so the closer the weave of there web the colder the winter the bigger the spacing the milder.
You are so cute…thank you for being si upbeat!
Patara, I just wanted to let you know I've just checked the persimmon seeds here at the foot of the Smokies and they all were "spoons." With the three heavy fogs we had in August, I guess we better get ready for some snow!
I think mine will be all gone by the first frost here ..They're already falling and turning ripe..But Ooo my they're so astringent..
We recently moved to Culpeper county. Va. Used to have a persimmon tree. Will have to watch your weather. Sometime your wearher ends up here. But we are due a really snowy winter, arent we!
(Just discovered you. Love your site!)
Oh that is so cool, loved it….
I just love you!!! I’m a old country gal, and we always knew winters by nature. Thanks for sharing, this is one I hadn’t heard of. ❤️
I'm in KY and I had forgot about the persimmon seed…we look for wooly worms and we are seeing lots of solid black indicating heavy snows…I prefer brown wooly worms, mild winter…or the black and brown
Look like spoons to me
I’m a little further south and noticed we don’t have nearly as many acorns, pecans or hickory nuts as usual . .
Patara, I am still chuckling to myself. Oh my goodness this was soooooo awesome to watch. This is the first time I have ever heard of this and I'm so glad I was here today to learn it from you. Thank you so much for making my life a bit more richer and absolutely fun and informative. It isn't just your voice that sings but your personality does too. Keep singing, it's great.
Well for southeast Iowa it's been spoons and we have been getting snow ❄ started in early January and it hasn't melted and just keeps adding to it .
Can we say that's for Texas.
That was fun….love ripe persimmons .Our good neighbors who have been homesteaders for many years gave us a persimmon tree years ago .
