My Grandma always use to do her garden like this. I was around 8 or 9 so I did not really understand what she was doing. She always told me she learned how to do it from her Great Grandma who was half native american. Well now I know!!! Great video! Thanks for sharing!!!
looking forward to seeing how it looks all grown up!
Love this!
what a wonderful idea. I have the perfect spot in my garden. I love corn, I love beans, I love, love, love butternut squash and I love history. your amazing Patara. What a great video. I see you work a lot by your self. Me too. I get lost in my garden, you inspire me to go beyond the normal. Living in North Alabama, (the rocket city) I guess we are neighbors.
Thank you ! Very well explained . I am eager to try this method. Here in Québec it is still to early to plant this trio.
So cool! I'm sure this method will work, since it's been tried and true over generations. Looking forward to seeing it grow! Tfs
Can I do this in Canada? We can’t safely plant where I live until after May 24 weekend. If I have to let the corn get a head start, will that give the rest enough time? Have always wanted to do this and recently followed this channel because of the chicken videos (I have chickens). Love your videos!
How many squash seeds do you plant and where do you plant them around the beans and corn?
Awesome, gardening and history in one video. Please keep us posted. I'll check out that recipe. Thanks for sharing.
The 3 sisters sounds like a great thing to try. We live close to the Cherokee Foothills scenic hwy11 in SC. Maybe that method would work here, had a lot of failures with garden I g here due to the wet conditions. Love you Patera!
Grate idea never though about that but I'll try it. Thank you
About how many squash plants per mound?
Thanks for the education on how to plant the three sisters. Good luck with your planting.
I had planned to do the three sister planting method, just waiting on the rain to stop long enough for me to get into the garden. Loved this video thank you so much. Cant wait for the updates. Hugs
Hi Patara.Question: How does one get to the beans and corn, to harvest, when it's time? (with all those squash vines around it?) Aside from that "problem", I like this idea. God Bless.
Ellissa loves y'all!! <3 xoxoox
Can go with hulless type pumpkin. The seeds are good for snacking late in year.
Thanks for another great, formative video. My garden is already planted this year but I'd like to try this next year
Cant wait to see the Three Sisters growing.
Love your videos, you take me back to when my parents and grandparents planted their gardens, hard work, but awesome fresh eating and then canning and freezing. Can you grow butternut squash in large containers?
been planning on doing this. all 3 in one garden, and just corn and beans in another.
Last week I visited the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulfur, Oklahoma. They were using the Three Sisters planting method in their garden! The guide explained how they do it and why. I plan on planting one mound in my backyard garden.
I'm doing this for a 2nd attempt, now in northern Arkansas zone 7. I planted my rainbow heirloom corn 3 days ago. I'm glad you mentioned using a sprawling squash towards the end to keep critters out, I think I'll add some pumpkins to the ends of my big garden, let it sprawl out down there!!!
I loved this video. I can't wait to see it later when it has grown some.
Thank you! Love the information you gave!
No one explained this method like you did!
