  1. Born and raised in SC and yes we don’t have the infrastructure to handle ice that’s the big thing. Thankfully in recent year they have learn to salt the main roads to prepare but ppl live on less travelled roads so if there’s ice no one is coming to salt your road and your stuck with black ice so it’s best to stay home and not be out and get in an accident

  2. I just subbed yesterday or the day before something like that. And you inspired me to save some seeds from some bell peppers that I had bought that I didn't get eaten in time and they were starting to turn soft so I took all of the seeds out of them and let's hope they were not irradiated or anything to where they won't sprout I've got a pretty good pile of seeds over there and these were big pretty bell peppers. I just wanted to let you know that your inspiration made me go ahead and try to save that stuff thank you

  3. I miss having chickens. Foxes got the last 3 we had. If we can find a spot that's closer to the house and that's easier to get to I the Upstate NY winters we have, we will hopefully get some more. I get excited over the catalogs, too. ☺️

  4. Here on the Eastern Seaboard inland…we have a forecast for the POSSIBILITY of "freezing" temps and snow. BOOM! ALL schools close. That 1/8 inch dusting of snow that we may not even get closes schools. It's crazy. But it's fun for Southern kids to have fun in the snow. AND we do not have snow plow equipment like we did when we lived in Northern Indiana and the Chicago area. Safety first…yes!…but I still giggle at this stuff.

  5. Hi Jess! I got to where microwave popcorn started leaving a film of oil in my mouth, so I stopped using it and went back to stovetop popping. it's so much better! I did buy a silicone popper off of Amazon for microwaving popcorn and it works really well, too. Thanks so much for sharing!

  6. I have a Stir Crazy for making popcorn. It has a rotating arm to move the kernels around. I also love the Amish Popcorn brand. They have lots of fun colors (I really like getting their rainbow bag. It has all the colors in it).

  7. I literally had a child's friend day to me "you mean you can MAKE popcorn?!" He's now an engineer, brought over his child to "check it out"!
Your puzzlement with SC's reaction to a weather event is exactly how the northerners feel about your reaction to temperature!

  8. Yes! We should encourage people. Not make them feel stupid because they didn't know something. I remember being that person and it is a horrible feeling. It is nobody's fault they do not know something. They just haven't experienced it yet and new experiences are part of life and should be celebrated.

  9. Ahhh, memories. I inherited my love of popcorn from my mother. Popcorn on the stove was the only way we had to make it until microwave popcorn came along, but she kept to the stove method, making popcorn most evenings. One hint about the glass stoves: the manufacturers usually recommend you don't drag pans across the surface, so you can let it sit and just pick up the pan a little and shake it every so often. We used to do this anyway, because nobody in the house liked the sound of the pan dragging on the gas or electric burners (depending on what we had at the time). Never had any issue with burning.

  10. Catalog life,. I remember as a child getting the Ward's and Sears Christmas catalogs and know I could not have all the beautiful toys, but the seed and chicken catalogs have the same effect now. Yes hours enjoyed growing vicariously. I had over 200 chickens in the past plus ducks and turkeys. Some critter came in and in less then a month I lost them all!!! Miss them.
