I have a similar screen setup, but that funnel idea is brilliant.
Just set a screen at 45 degrees, throw stuff at the top and let gravity do the work for you. It takes me less than an hour to sift a couple yards of compost this way.
Stoked how fast your channel is growing man. I look forward to the next California talk. Any idea when you'll be through again?
Manure meal? Did a Google search to mo avail. HELP!
Do you ever get to the US; Northern California to be exact?
I'd love to attend one of your classes.
Too sad there are not many videos on Youtube covering Roebuck Farm. I really like the setup and the DIY approach the guys implemented on many jobs. The farm looks just amazing! How big is it? I hope you can manage to get some more footage.
I am going to need the plans for that thing!!
I made one that fit on a wheel barrel, the frame fits over the top and has a track for framed screen to slide back and forth.
best
the sunburn during winter is something to be jealous of…
I love that soil sifter.
1 Thing…you need some sunscreen, your poor nose.
Awesome! I was trying to figure out a way to build one of those!
Hi Curtis,
I had an idea for your compost pile problem back at home. How about excavating a few inches of good soil from the footpaths between beds, adding that wherever it would be useful and then shredding the organic matter in your compost piles and spreading that fiber under the footpath tarps to compost. If you go six inches deep, then a 50 foot footpath would compost over 20 cubic feet of fiber.
OMG Curtis! You MUST get a shot of Mt. Taranaki, especially with your drone. It is such a dominant feature of the landscape.
Curtis,
Any chance on an update on Jodi's strawberries?
BTW, his farm is beautiful! Love the opening drone shots.
Nice, simple and effective. Maybe a touch loud, but some rope could also work.

The Roebuck farm is more beautiful than yours 🙂
you should move out of the city and get some huge property to manage your operations 🙂
Curtis take a look at the chain section or trailor supply of Your hardware store for screw links so you can easily install and remove the shaker screen that way You make a temporary set up when need to shift and make up more mix I think the Walk way between the Basil bed and Your potting table in yje the Green House
That looks amazing.
What an Amazing garden. Can you tell me what those palm looking plants, in the background neer the edge of the garden is ? They look like tree-ferns. Could you please investigate for the fond Arborist 🙂
Curtis, I see in the video that Roebuck Farm has a big water tank on the property. Do they have limited water access. At my farm we have to bring in water at this time, because cost for our non-profit is way to much to drill well or hook up to city water. We are trying to figure out the best ways to for watering system.
Great idea!! Love it.
Nice compost screen, if seen one that sits on rollers with a frame and it sits over the wheelbarrow. Thanks for the video. Btw I just started a new channel. Going to be covering gardening, canning, chickens for eggs/meat, woodworking, gun reviews/shooting, atv, and pigs this summer. Please come on over and check it out and please subscribe. Thank you
Thanks for the video Curits. I do love a good sieve 🙂
I've repurposed an ancient 'ROTARY ASH SIFTER' – originally made for coal klinkers. I've positioned it over a garbage can and used it to sift compost. There is a hopper at one end. The rotary element is tilted. The sift falls down and the large junk drops out of the low end. – Bill
My last name in Roebuck
Curtis you missed the huge gold nugget on that screen! Go back! Go back!
Wow! Will they be selling the PLANS? Would love to make one!
I also make my own potting soil. I just made a screener the width and length of a wheelbarrow from scrap 2x4s and cheap metal screen with 3/8” squares
Hardcore John Jeavons stuff! Super
Thank you for sharing
