Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

#tips #ginger
You did this video already!
No it wont ferment and turn into ginger beer. Missing some key ingredient there 😉
Or buy organic.
uhhhh, this is so confusing…
I'm glad you brought this up Mark!
Bcuz I've seen different people say soak it for different times:
½ an hour
1 hour
3 hours
12 hours
24 hours
So my question to you is this:
Is there a way to tell when it's been soaking TOO long?
Or actually,
to know when enough,
is enough?
I definitely don't need to ingest that growth inhibitor. I'm short enough as it is.
Great tip Mark!
lol, That would be cool and weird.
I tried this the last time you mentioned it. I now have three plants growing! Thank you!!
I have DejaVu
Im growing & planting ginger the first time this summer… )
Love your content sir
Mark, you’re a real scream! Sacramento California
How long does it take to grow?
always with the Zingers and the Zingibers!
Ginger beer sounds good
Great tip!
Do we just plant it under the soil once it is washed?
Is it cold water .?
Do I need to soak it if it is from a friend garden ???
For ginger beer you need some sugars for the fermentation process.
All Seeing Eye T-shirt. Hmm?
So THAAAATTTS what happened. Several months after planting, and all I got was a couple of smallish and highly unimpressive sprouts.
DAMN. But now I know…. Next year, God willing, I will have actual ginger.
I have to give this a go!
Glad u shared, some health people are suggesting to wash, then use with skin intact…
