In this video I follow the development of 12 hydroponic baby lettuce seedlings to see how they grew and ultimately matured in varying lighting conditions. The seedlings all started out the same way, planted in rockwool. Then some of them got thinned out and moved onto clay pebbles, and some others got rehomed into hydroponic Kratky systems. This is a classic nature vs nurture story. All the seedlings started out the same, but over time were subjected to different environments as you will see.

i like the idea of just growing the lettuce on the clay pebbles. there's always something new to experiment with. good job. i'm in the process of setting up a kratky tote to grow a small tomato and just watched your video about you setting up your first in a tote. how did that turn out? did it grow normally and fruit for you?? thanks. keep those videos coming 🙂
What a great experiment. Thanks for making this video ❤️
I'm trying to grow some lettuce using the Kratky Method, but I'm using 5000K LED lights. They are not growing as quickly as yours. One variety bolted. I'm wondering if I need to get grow lights instead. ???
So very true….."Lighting".
Have you compared kratky to air mat? I'm really wondering how that would turn out
Is there any way you can monitor the temperature of the hydroponic solution
in these experiments?….apparently the temperature of the solution
has an effect on the plants ability to absorb the nutrients…
Thanks for sharing……
Interesting
Thanks for another interesting video. It looks like you have good luck with Black Seeded Simpson lettuce. Are there any other varieties that do well for you?
Thank You!! Great info as always!
Thanks for all your great videos! I'm trying hydroponics for the first time and my lettuce looks great, but it tastes terrible. It is too bitter to eat. Do you have any suggestions.
Now i know why my lettuce is leggy and tall…
I love your videos! I get so excited when you post a new one. My world stops for your videos. Lol. Have a great day!
Thanks for the experiment. I've grown Lettuce in soil indoors before. I have several started in Khaky now. I hope they turn out well too.
Thanks for the video! How many weeks roughly are there between the first day and the review day?
My thought is the sticker on the cookie bin blocked sunlight.
Love this video it is fun experimenting I have lots of greens growing indoors. Hint.. use black long soocks to cover you containers saves money on foil Thank you
I love your videos!
Happy 2021
Definitely interested in seeing the lettuce on clay pebbles– I used the method in your previous video to get summer savory to sprout in a Kratky setup in hydroton without rockwool. I ended up having to adjust my water levels though: my "basket" unraveled and one of the seedlings germinated much higher than expected.
Happy growing!
Great video. But please add pauses.
Did you have to add nutrient water more frequently to the clay pebble seedlings?
I love all your hydroponic gardening videos, they’re so relaxing haha
Did the lettuce planted in just the rock wool taste any different?? It is much greener. I'm wondering if that means it absorbed more of the nutrients and is therefore healthier?
Was there a taste difference between the darker green ones in the rockwell cubes and original cookie container and the nice ones in the coffee containers with the LED light?
