Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

My son played football in high school. One of the first games I found myself standing on my feet and yelling at the top of my lungs, "Get him, get him!" Where did that come from?!? I did go to every one of his games all four years, because he is my baby.
You might also consider having a small outdoor kitchen like Doug & Stacy have on their homestead for your eating area. They show it on their channel once in a while. They have an off grid set-up and that is different, but of course you would do it your own style. 🙂
Just a thought that ran through my mind after seeing the frame around the area you already have.
Hi guys, I agree the dining area will be a great area for your family. Yes don't forget the fireplace or fire pit, do flagstone underneath the dining tables.
In your raised beds you moved, plant fruit shrubs such as blackberries, high bush blueberries, raspberries, high bush cranberries. Whatever you eat in fruit wise.
I like the idea of cut flowers and berry bushes… but I think I'm most interested in berry bushes! Put the cut flower beds out in the open, and let those berries get lovey and sweet in the shadier spot between the green houses.
When you talked about taking out the garden in front of the house, my first thought was it would be a great gathering area with tables. I'm so glad you're thinking of doing that.
I bet when you start doing more community stuff, you'll attract a lot of out-of-towners that want to learn. You'll bring great "tourist" dollars to your town.
I think you and Miah are the cutest couple.
A work shop is absolutely needed.
I’d go with cut flowers between the high tunnels. Great pollinator gardens between your year round gardens in the high tunnels.
FINALLY MIA’S WORKSHOP!!!!!
Does Will have a channel?
I love how you change plans as you go. It's just such a good example for us.
Sounds like a huge place of refuge is being built, step by step….for time's are falling.
Nice about your older calves. Your workshop will be handy useful and a wonderful achievement. Nice also about a possible outdoor dining area at the entrance to your present home. Makes sense. Jeremiah did a nice pergola so it will be a lovely spot for that. Glad Benjamin has a nice friend to share his bushcraft adventures with. Good and keeps him busy.
Glad you were able to make the move the bigger property. Lots of work, but very rewarding.
Flagstone over gravel for the dining area for sure! Climbing roses for the arbor in the dining area. And keeping it civil, clean and a Christian attitude is darn hard when your child is playing football!
Love your idea under the pergola a long table down the middle Italian style with grapevines growing up them would be beautiful
I love the pergola being a meal meeting space!
My suggestion would also be for grapevines (as long as you don't let the dogs eat them} on the pergola and/or a kitchen/medicinal herb garden along the sides. Eating outdoors is so great.
Your outside dining area sounds cool ,very Tuscan..Some grapes growing on the pergola. Some wine barrels.
What about a solar powered small water fall to aerate the pond?
I love how Bear does a patrol on the things you are speaking about ❤️. He's a good boy.
I like the idea of the berry bushes in the repurchased vigo beds.
Thanks for your video
Can you tell us how wide you build your tomato beds please.
❤
