  1. I'm so excited to watch your process of relocating and building, my families dream is to buy land and homestead. I can't wait to learn from you guys and see you progress! God Bless you all!

  2. I just discovered your videos recently, and commented to my husband what a wonderful teacher you are, Jess. I learned so much about gardening that I wish I had known about years earlier. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for gardening and for the land. Every good wish to you and your family in your new chapter in South Carolina.

  3. Wow, I'm so excited for you both! Welcome to the Carolinas. 🙂 I agree with your banker: wait. The price of lumber has started to decrease, but it's not expected to fully come down to normal areas until at least Fall 2022. Here's a thought: find two old remodelable mobile homes, and have them placed parallel to each other near wherever your septic field/tank is going to be, but not too close to the footprint of the house. Build a big huge covered deck between the two mobile homes, and make yourself a nice outdoor kitchen. You'll be able to use that outdoor kitchen most of the year. And that'll keep Miah busy. (Like he needs anything to keep him busy.) Once you get a house built, you can sell the remodeled mobile homes, or maybe move them as guest cottages, and keep the deck and outdoor kitchen. Also, think passive (or active!) solar when you are ready to build. That will keep you more self-sustaining.

  4. What an exciting adventure both families are about to begin. Have you considered borrowing the Hollar’s trailer? It would be a bit cramped, but if you used it in conjunction with your new camper, it might work.

  5. Build an extension onto the camper – run it the length of the camper and it will give you extra bedrooms and family living area. Use the camper for the kitchen, dining, bathroom, and mom and dad's bedroom. Build a patio area with a canopy for outdoor cooking. It is actually a very comfortable way to live while building/establishing your permanent home and homestead. An extra thought: with your temporary living quarters secure you have the time to focus on building your farm and gardens, and can plan out your house without the stressing about it's immediate construction, thus avoiding any potential regrets from a hurried build. These are just suggestions, presented in love, and I wish you every success in all of your endeavours!

  6. OMG!! When I saw the property I told my husband "I bet ya they're somewhere near us. Your property looks very familiar. And when you said you're moving to the midlands of SC, 30 minutes from Columbia. My guess may be correct or pretty close. Jess you & Mia have been an inspiration to myself and my husband. And I'm so grateful to know that I may run into yall at the local feed & seed. God Bless yall & hope to meet you in person one day.
