VIDEO: AeroGarden Hydroponic Tomato Plants Days 5 – 21

AeroGarden Hydroponic Tomato Plants: Follow germination from Day 4 to a nice strong healthy tomato plant on Day 21. I’m happy to say the plants in my AeroGarden are doing really nicely. You can see how I set up the Aerogarden in an earlier video at https://youtu.be/oQ0kShq-rSI
This is an ongoing project, you can see an update on the plants for Days 23-90 at: https://youtu.be/RKVKbXsrKVw

  1. I've got some red heirloom cherry tomatoes growing in my own aerogarden and they're doing well after the first 3 weeks. I went to set up the same thing for my Dad and when I opened the box up, the pods themselves are labeled Red Heirloom whereas mine are labeled Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes. I see that your pods are also labeled Red Heirloom. The boxes we have are both labeled Heirloom Cherry tomatoes. Are there two different sizes of Heirloom tomatoes available or will they all be cherry tomatoes?

  2. My wife loves to start plants indoors here in the northeast USA. She had various setups using grow lights and starter pots with mixed success. She was excited to try this AeroGarden. Setup is very easy and there is not much to to control but i can control very easily>>>t.co/XQf2LXinzA  . This is also pricey but if you are looking to grow some seasonings indoors year-round this is an attractive, energy efficient, well-designed solution.

  3. You did a nice job with this video, but why didn't you put the four extra seedlings back into AeroGarden sponges that you could have put into the four extra holes you had in the AeroGarden??

  4. I just thinned out my tomatoes, sad to say I ended up pulling them all out with barely any roots in tact which worries me… I also hope the left over roots that were left behind don’t end up rotting

  5. Is it possible to cut the screen out of reusable coffee keurig pods and use those to put the extra shoots in a jar to grow? Instead of those baskets you were using

  6. Rob, at 7 Pot Club and you helped me to start Aerogardening. I bought 3) Bounty Basic gardens: 1 for lettuce,1 for tomatoes and one for herbs. I also obtained 25 garden port blocking plugs and 15 Grow Your Own growing baskets. Units were started a week between each. Lettuce is planted with only 4 plants in a staggered style to give most room to each plant. Four Tomato plants are in a strait row down the middle. Herbs were planted tall to the back. I omitted dill because it is hard to control. An aquarium aerator with check valve and 2 T's supplies air to each tank from 1 Whisper pump.
Manufacturer suggest that tomatoes sprout best with water @ 72 to 78 degrees. In the basement it is much cooler so I added a tiny 5w aquarium heater which was used for only a few days. At 5 weeks I have some rapidly growing tomato plants. I have seen that 2 plants will completely cover the Bounty model. I may have to do some thinning. Small tweezers work well for thinning sprouts.
Kang Starr has a nutrient blend he shows how to make and General Hydroponics sells nutrients ("Grow" and "Bloom" ) to support plant growth stages. Both Kang and Rob grow hot peppers. Both of these guys are a depth of knowledge Rob keeps over 140 plants thru the winter and transplants in the late Spring.
With just these 3 units I am waiting to see how it affects my electric bill. Normally it's about $25 a month.

  7. These instructions have been most helpful. I also took a chance and transplanted my extra seedlings into a Park Dome seed starter and they have grown well. I later took my AeroGarden seedlings and put them into the soil as I eventually plan to put them in my outside garden. The Park Dome replanted seedlings of the tomatoes and all of the other extra seedlings made a perfect place to keep them growing. Good advice. Thank you.
