  1. G'day Everyone, in a weird kind of way one of the things I like about gardening is how success is never guaranteed and I think that's why every time I do have a "gardening win" or "grow a ton" that feeling of satisfaction and excitement never wanes… Get into it! Cheers 🙂

  2. Thanks. My garlic was so pitiful this year, both in containers and in the raised bed. They're still usable but separating all those little cloves is annoying. It was due to lack of water. The soil was compost rich and with bone meal. The indoor garlic was better 🙁

  3. In Wisconsin, USA, hardneck type does wonderfully…. grow in compost and this year I’ll add a little sand to help break up the soil I’ve seen. Every one should investigate their region around the world before planting, here I plant @ Halloween day (October 31)

  4. Hoy, I'm newish to growing garlic myself, but someone I know reckons that they have had excellent success counteracting small bulbs from a late planting by whacking the cloves in the fridge a couple or three weeks first. Give them a bit of turbo wintering. They reckon that they get similar bulb size and fewer rounds planting as late as June, as compared to the usual April planting we use here down south.
Mark you might consider elephant garlic (which is really a leek but grows and uses like garlic), it grows everywhere including the tropics.

  5. Thank you for your tips. I live in NSW (boder with QLD) and my garlic didn't make any cloves and made small cloves just on it (very hard small cloves) I haven't seen like this before!!! Could you tell what is the best time to plant it?

  6. Thanks for sharing! Here in Michigan Fall is usually the suggested best time to grow garlic, though you can grow in spring. So October is best for me though so far we've yet to have our first frost. I'm excited to try two varieties of hardneck garlic: Chesnok Red & Northern Jewel. Good luck on your experiment!

  7. Wonderful video, thank you! I'm no expert but I thought some of those garlic heads you pulled were actually a great size – maybe not the size you were expecting from that variety but they looked pretty decent to me.

  8. Try Elephant Garlic? Rust can come from grass mulch, straw mulch may have a similar effect. That being said, my Elephant Garlics never suffer from rust. I can't grow normal Garlic where in my Garlic spots because they grow too small, often as small as an Egyptian Walking onion Bulblette :/ Elephant Garlic have never failed me and they grow just fine on the North Side during our UK winter, suggesting they are shade tolerant. Best of luck anyways 😀

  9. So this year I decided to do a little experiment; plant the small bulbs from last year's crop. So far it has not worked out lol. They shoots are all skinny, pulled up a few shoots today, it's like 1 clove gone chunk. All small, super small. Will probs save a few to replant next year to see what happens with them (guessing they'll mature to full garlic bulbs).
Also, I been really bad with watering this year

  10. Hello 🙂
Thank you for your informative and funny videos 🙂
Do you grow only hardneck varieties of garlic? Softneck would certainly do better in your zone as they aren't as picky about vernalization as the hardnecks! What about trying Creoles or Asiatics, you have tried these kinds? And putting in too much fertilizer does not make for happy garlic, they don't like too much nitrogen. I'm not sure if these tips will help or not as I live in a zone 5 but I remember reading about and learning through garlic videos hints and tips for higher zones. Looking forward to learning more along with you!
