Great info. Thank you.
Thanku. Poke berry flower plant leaves look much bigger n wider than elder berry flower plant?
So helpful, thanks so much!
yes this really help. thanks
Fun post. Is that where the song came from? Tony Joe White – Polk Salad Annie, hope listen and like:)
Patara you probably already know but I wanted to mention in case others are not. Poke is toxic to goats.
I’m telling you, the good lord gives me these at the most perfect time. Thank you for making this video.
Great explanation of the differences between the two plants. Very good identification of flowers and differences in shape. I am sure this will be helpful for folks to know which are Elderberry bushes and which are Polk stalks. You "NAILED IT."
OAG
I can tell the Polk and elderberries apart I have problems with elderberry flowers and poison sumac flowers telling the difference
Excellent explanation for identifying these… Thanks!
I see where you have tried your hand at flyfishing, and the reason I bring that up is that I use the poke berries to dye some of my feathers to tie flies with. Have you ever dyed anything with poke berries or even the elderberries? I'd actually like to dye with some elderberries sometime to see how well feathers and other materials take up the color. Do you make wine or syrup from those elderberries. Btw ….. one of the glaring differences between poke berry and elderberry are those huge leaves on the poke berry plant …… they are not even close. Take care.
Another great video, thank you. I just read an article about how dangerous (even deadly in some cases) Giant Hogweed is and how it is mistaken for elderberry because of the flowers. Learning the leaf patterns is important and seeing videos like this are so important before you even touch some flowers.
Nice demonstration of both very helpful
Hi Patara, very good information about this berries. I can remember this. Love you and your Family. God Bless you all.
Time to pick poke, can and freeze it–lots do not know how to prep poke==pick the young leaves–wash really good–then par boil 3 times pouring the water off each time–then you can freeze in bags or can this for later on. after its par boiled–place in a big skillet or pot with some bacon fat or whatever you like–salt and pepper as it frys down–a hunk of cornbread and some pinto beans and wow-yuummmm yumm! oh and don,t forget some green onions-lol God bless.
Very well done!
Love your videos Patara. Very informative.
Have you ever transplanted a elder bush? What do you think is the best way to do this
pokeweed- new shoots up to 6" is edible with two water boil changes. mature stem, leave, seed and roots are deadly poisonous. have not found anything on the flesh of the berry.
Great video! Thanks
poke= shaped like a finger poking
Are polk berries poisonous?
Does poke stink when it’s growing?
I know what to use elderberries for but what do you use Polk for
