Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. I didn’t know that you could take store-bought green potatoes and plant them like you did that was an amazing nugget seems the last 18 months I’ve been getting a lot more green tomatoes in my store bags when I purchased them I normally raise them myself but this last year we ran out so planning all new varieties this year along with some old ones….Good luck with your season

  2. OK! Now this answers a lot of questions for me. The last few months, almost all of the potatoes I have bought were green, and they sprouted eyes shortly after getting them home. Watching your videos, I have learned a LOT! Don't throw out those eggs that you forgot about, and no more throwing out that 5 pound bag of green potatoes! I have some growing in my pantry as we speak. I will give them a go! Thanks so much!

  3. Hi Mark, how often and for how long should I water a potato crop? I’d like to give spuds ago in my garden but I don’t want them to rot by over watering. I live in Townsville. Love your channel! Regards, Karen

  4. Jerusalem Artichokes are not artichokes and they're not from Jerusalem. They are actually a species of sunflower native to central North America.
