VIDEO: Cheap Small Incubator Don't Make a Big Mistake Duck Eggs

This video shows how I DIY a cheap incubator to give it extra insulation and a longer operating life using some duck eggs as an example. I also chat about blood line renewal in poultry, buying eggs online, styrofoam boxes, and more!

  1. Mark, you legend. Always remember when asking someone to send eggs to label them as 'FRAGILE', that way Australia Post knows to throw them underarm'.. :).. Another great video!!

  2. Hi Mark, That's very useful video like the idea about insulation, I always thought that hatching eggs is very complicated but you make it looks really easy. Also impressive packaging of those eggs

  3. So informative!
I've just bought myself a cheap chinese mini incubator, and will be keeping it in an unsulated box like that. I had no idea they overheat from lack of insulation! I think I saw this video just in time before I start incubating some quail eggs 🙂 Thankyou. Keep up the great videos x

  4. Brilliant… I just got a cheep Chinese incubator could not get the dam thing to stop alarming, literally every few minutes it was driving me crazy. Then I watched this vid insulated the incubator and Walah! holdine good temp and humidity. Thank you so much! Regards John.

  5. I have been using regular Styrofoam incubators forever but I have to keep jacking with them to keep the temp where I want it. I was tempted to try something like this but I was worried about the birds suffocating. After seeing this I think maybe I over estimated the amount of oxygen they need…

  6. Thanks for such a great video Mark. It will be very helpful for my first time using an incubator (ebay cheapie). I was wondering though what is the best way to test the temperature and humidity of the incubator? My concern is that the cheap combination thermometer/ humidity meters maybe quite inaccurate.

  7. Hi Mark
Our local kindy has this incubator but no manual and has had a couple of failed hatches.
I am trying to track down a manual so I can set it up for them ie turn frequency, lockdown, that sort of thing. Wonder if you still have yours? Have posted on backyardchickens as well…

  8. Mark, thanks for the update on the incubator. Now that you've had it for a year, are you still happy with this unit or is there another model you would suggest? Mine is for duck eggs. I'm hoping to be able to incubate 12 eggs at one. Do you think the model noted in this video would work for that number of duck eggs? Thanks!
