We’ve started planting our fall crops. We planted Danver’s Half Long carrots, Georgia collards, Siberian kale, Lolla Rossa lettuce, Red Romaine lettuce, Tendergreen Mustards, Black Seeded Simpson lettuce, and Bloomsdale Longstanding spinach.
The huge watermelon that we have been watching for a while is finally ripe!

Today we harvested okra, butter beans, green beans, and peppers. We have a lot of new items planted in the garden we wanted to share as well.
It is time to harvest and replant several of our crops. We harvested and pulled the Brussels Sprouts one of the rows of roma tomatoes. We harvested several other items in the garden.
We picked tomatoes, Purple Hull Peas, Butter Beans, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, and peppers. Pretty nice harvest day for us!
An update about our garden for July. We have Purple Hull Peas about ready to pick. Our butterbeans are about ready too.
Our onions are dry and we are cutting off the roots and dead foliage for a final weigh in.

We harvested our Stowell’s Evergreen corn today! We started some Silver Queen sweet corn in flats about three weeks ago. Immediately after harvesting the Stowell’s Evergreen corn today we cut down the stalks and transplanted our Silver Queen where the Stowell’s had been.

One of the first harvests of our squash! We planted groups of squash in several different areas of the garden.
It’s time to harvest garlic! I think this is the best garlic harvest we have ever had. Most of the heads were big and pretty. Last year we waited a little too long and a lot of the cloves had sprouted. I think we caught it at about the right time this year.
In this video we harvest carrots, harvest our spring onions, and replant them into the bed where the carrots were. We also transplant our peppers we started from seed into larger containers. Our strawberries are making like crazy!!

We have a tiny 8′ by 8′ pond in our backyard that we have stocked with Channel Catfish. We recently cleaned the pond for spring and harvested some of the fish. We were curious about how many fish were left in the pond, so we decided to take the underwater GoPro down to investigate!
We don’t thin or separate our strawberry plants.Every other year we deep mulch our strawberry plants. We cover the entire bed with a very thick layer of leaves. Our asparagus bed has finally decided to kick in and make asparagus for us!
Garden update from back in mid-March. We are fertilizing our greens with Black Kow and Blood Meal and then mulching with hay.
We are planting some White Kennebec Potatoes. We have one area in our garden that is dry enough to plant. We will plant more as the garden dries out.
This is a very quick update on what is going on here. It has rained every day for about the last two weeks and is supposed to rain every day for the next two weeks too. We are doing as much in the garden as we can, but it is just a wet boggy mess!
We are prepping a bed and planting Candy onions. The soil amendments we used are Blood Meal, Bone Meal, and Black Kow composted cow manure.
We are still trying to find ways to expand the available growing space in our backyard.
