The ultimate seed starting mix has arrived! it is fairly simple to make, and your plants will appreciate it! I go over the reasons to use this versus other plant mixes, and I also I discuss the reasons behind traditional methods and why they are inferior for starting plants.

I usually love your work but PLEASE wear a dust mask when handling anything that's dusty, especially Vermiculite! If you don't, do you think your followers will ?

I do love your videos, but please get your mathematical facts right. It is physically impossible to give 150% effort. 100% is the max effort that anyone can give.
OMG, he just talk so much, get to the point already
Your puppy is adorable! I love how she is listening! Sooooo sweet!
Luke you are like the Nicola Tesla of the garden world
What’s your opinion of Fox Farm Light Warrior as a seed starting medium?
This came up in my suggestions. Great video still.
I love this channel but man I think we could have gotten to the point and finished up within 3 minutes not 14 minutes. Sometimes less is more … 🙁
Sorghum moss is the best seed starter.
Enjoy your take on gardening and all your videos, thanks for the info
Living room–the new potting shed!!!
Do I have to microwave my peat I want to use warm castings.
What about Perlite? Don't you need that too?
Have you ever used greensand in your seed starting mix? I've put in in the dirt I fill my patio planters with but have not tried it in seed starting mix.
Shih tzu baby? Sweet.
what would the result be with a micro wave? Killing too much or not?
This is not a seed starting mix! There's a reason all the professional mixes don't include rich organics, it's because they kill your seedlings from damping off and other fungal diseases. Youtube is full of newbie garden bloggers who think they reinvented the wheel by adding organic components and thinking it's a still a seed starting mix because they either haven't actually used it, or only used it after danger of frost is past (when it would have been much better to just plant seed in the ground). If these newbie-organic-seedling mixes are used at the normal time while it's still cold, this creates a need for protection, heating, and artificial humidity; which will kill your seedlings from fungal disease. This is common garden knowledge that's been worked out long, long ago. The seedling mix makers are not as incompetent as you think they are.
I was hoping for “first principles” somewhere here, Mr MI
can you use azomite?
3 minutes in the secret to life is worm castings…
I have had trouble with starting my seeds. They are thin and growing over not tall and strong will try this mix with the next seeds I start.
I’d like to know what to substitute for the jiffy mix. You said it’s about 60% peat moss & some vermiculite… but I have these in bulk & mix my own potting mix. Never heard of the stuff you used but I’m guessing it’s similar to the azemite rock dust I see at my local garden store..?
Can you use this starter mix for any organic vegetable seeds?
I added cinnamon to mine. It helps to keep the gnats out. And fungus.
I know this is an old video but it's pointless to put rock dust in a seed starting mix. It takes MONTHS for even a trace amount of minerals to be released from the rock dust. It takes a year or more to release enough minerals to actually be beneficial. Rock dust is meant for amending an earth bed as it takes such a long time to provide benefits. You can't just use make believe when making something and then tell people you've copied nature and it's the best mix when you did no tests, no comparisons…. because if you did you'd find rock dust did nothing. Humic acid does nothing for a seed starting mix. It's called SEED STARTING. After the plant germinates and grows a little you then transplant it. Then most vegetables are ready for harvest in a few weeks….. way before rock dust anything. And the tiny amount of humic acid and worm castings are doing nothing after it's transplanted because you're adding compost, castings and other fertilizers after transplanting.

Greetings, I recently HAD gnats in my potted plants but I sprinkled of all things Ceylon cinnamon and POW they are gone, not one, hasta la vista baby! So that’s just another anti gnat strategy and it most definitely works! Thank you
Cute zoe!!
