VIDEO: How to quickly increase Crop Production by thinning Apples

Apple trees require a bit of care throughout the year to get the best possible crop from them. Thinning is really important because it gets rid of large clumps of small apples to make way for a few apples to grow to full size instead of having a lot of small ones. If you want to know how to prune an established apple tree you can see how to do it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vbg5b-6jx8

  1. Thanks Huw! I never know how many to thin to. We are in drought this year so the tree has barely any on it but for next year i will have it thinned perfectly

  2. Can goats eat young apples? I have no idea if they can. I plan to get a couple of goats and this would be perfect because my apple tree is producing insane amounts of apples but the chickens don't much care for them.

  3. Hi, Huw (and Huw's dad!) I have a miniature Braeburn apple tree in a large pot. It always has masses of lovely blossom in Spring but it only has a few apples on it now….what I want to know is why so few apples when there was so much blossom?  (:o(

  4. I just harvested my red currant and make a red currant jelly and red currant juice concentrate.  Will you make a video how to make a vinegar and wine from the red currant. Your video really helps.  Thank you.

  5. My Gala apple does not have any fruits this year. To many fruits last year and I did not cut or reduced of too much fruits last year.  I am learning from your video how I will take care of the apple fruits. Only i have problems with ants, i use organic ant killer, but this ants keep on coming back every year.  How i will get rid of this ants? Thank you sharing this video.

  6. Your dad is cool, and I love the new snips. The apples thinning is something I never thought of. Do you have to cook the apples before you give them to the pigs or can you just give them raw off the tree?

  7. Thank you for your instructive video.  I just purchased a "Triple Play Apple" tree.  The trunks are quite close together.  Can you tell me how to plant it?  I'm sure the trunks will be over a foot wide at maturity.  And what about branching?  The trees will be up to 20'.  The nursery man told me to gently pull the plants apart prior to planting.  I'm just confused and flummoxed about what to do with this.
