  1. Great video Jay. I think and I hope those cuts will heal over just like ginger. Doesn't @RobBobs Backyard Farming  grow yacon perhaps he would have some advice on the proper way to treat the rhizomes. What did the ones that you bought look like when they were delivered?

  2. Thanks for showing what you are doing. They may be like iris roots. Or banana. They both did well at pulling or cutting them apart. Then back in the soil. You might try putting the other yakon in some moist coco coir like I did to rehydrate the potatoes. It made them as good as new in 48 hours. I look forward to more of your updates. Mine is growing a new plant on the side of the original.

  3. I have thought about growing this.  It seems a lot like a sweet potato.  I have salty soil and water and summer temps over 110 degrees, so I am reluctant to buy tubers.  Plus most of the seed suppliers ship these kinds of things out in the Spring which is way too late for me.

  4. What a monster! As far as I understand, you can cut/divide them wherever you see 'eyes' or those buds growing. When I have ordered them, the pieces of crown were very small. (I got some new varieties for this coming season because I don't know how well the ones from last year fared.)

  5. Never ate or grew yacon, but looking at what you did, I might try 2 things. Let some of the cuts dry out a bit before planting, and some others I'd try to brush some honey on the cuts before planting them.
Hope you will figure out what works best :o)
    Cheers !

  6. Great J. I think they should heal over. I must say it was monster plant. I don't see any other way you could have split it up so fingers crossed. Potatoes seem to do ok when you spilt them and they have a high water content. I am impressed that they stored so well too.

  7. Hay J I got the Yacon yesterday and thanks for the beans too fantastic mate.
The bag with the beans in split. I opened the box and pow beans all over lol. I didnt film it I had just got in from work wish I had though. I will get some soil and plant them today.in pots. How deep did you plant them?
    Cheers mate Dave.

  8. Hi I am growing this on allotment in Perth, Scotland and judging by the top growth it seems to be doing pretty well. Many thanks for this as was wondering how to store the crowns after harvesting next weekend.
