VIDEO: 5 Components To Perfect & Healthy Soil

I get asked very frequently how “perfect” soil can be achieved, or if the soil someone has is sufficient for growing in. We will outline in this episode the 5 components that make up great soil, healthy soil, and how it affects your plants.

  1. Luke, Love the channel, think you are doing good. But, I have to disagree with what you said about clay soil. I made my own soil with compost, worm castings and topsoil(bagged) oh and mulch. I had small tomatoes, even with large varieties. My dad, on the other hand, just planted some starts in his clay soil. He had bigger tomatoes that ripened faster, did not have to water all summer and when he pulled his plants, he had roots the thickness of my fingers four feet long, oh he did not fertilize or amend at all. So, I do not think that your comment about clay soil and that the root ball not spreading is from, maybe a limited view. Your thoughts?

  2. I want to thank you for all the videos & information you have been providing. I also want to thank you for including your beautiful family. Your hard work & willingness to educate is MOST APPRECIATED & REWARDING. May GOD bless you & your family always.

  3. Please help! Filled up my cart on your web store but cannot find the checkout link! Hopefully I figure it out soon, but you could be losing lots of sales… I can't find out how to pay you.

  4. You gotta research. Nobody knows crap about space because it's make believe that NASA feeds the ignorance of people. One thing we all need to know about soil is that it needs a cover like God does every year.

  5. I have a north facing garden. It gets some sunlight but with nearby housing, fencing and structures that light can often be periodical and varied. I want to start a lovely but low maintenance garden which provides privacy from neighbours and noise. What do u recommend that I plant?

  6. Hello Luke, what a wonderful video! Full of great info and well-explained. However I am wondering how to add clay to the growing soil. Currently I have clay soil and I mix compost into it and plant into that. However there is still a solid layer of clay underneath the growing medium which does not allow roots to grow into it. In winter it is wet and solid (no aeration) and in summer it is dry and solid (no aeration). Does this matter? One idea I had was to dig up handfuls of clay in winter and sit them on top of the soil and each time plants are watered, some clay from the clay lumps washes down onto and into the soil. I can also add some wet clay to the compost bin or won't that work? One more idea: let a handful of clay harden and grate it into the compost bin or into the soil with a kitchen grater. Do you have suggestions?

  7. Jehovah richly bless you.family.thanks a million. Now I fully understand why we need composts.I always wondered why since God give us the earth for planting without composts.Vegetations deplete fertilit,y,Composts, fertilizers remineralize the earth.

  8. hey luke love u buddy.great video again.luke i have a yellow sandy soil.im applying manures to it but my plants are not thriving as much as in my neighbours garden who have clay in their garden.im planning to add some clay probably 1 to 2 inch layer of clay and mixing it well with my sandy soil..what u suggest dear….

  9. Dear MIgardener the question I have about soil structure is this: why does the soil in my raised bed feels as if it has thin crust on top? The crust is maybe 1/2 inch thick. Beneath it is moist and soft. I have a mixture of native soil and compost made of cow manure and homemade compost. My compost is made of a mixture of grass clippings shredded leaves and wood chips. I enjoy your channel very much and would appreciate your thoughts.

  10. Loved your video. Just learning about the importance of soil. I live on a farm and have used aged cow and chicken manure mixed with our soil. Everything is growing very slow. From this video if I am right next year I need compost mixed with my soil or can I just put a couple inches of compost on the top next year? Add a little of your trifecta. Would this be a good start? Thank you.

  11. Just bought next year's worm castings, Humic acid and azomite plus turning over about a 700/800 lb. Compost pile of grass clippings dry leaves from the floor of my woods and other browns, also for next year here in North East PA.
