  1. Thank you!! These books are now on my wish list 🙂
When we do get our homestead, I want to be as informed and prepared as I can so I'm not overwhelmed by the unforeseen stuff hehe

  2. Im glad some of the books in my collection were on that list. Nope I aint got my chickens yet nor goats but by the time I get them Im hoping that I will have some knowledge fixed in my noggin so I dont hurt any of my animals with stupidity.

  3. Thank you!! I've already told them I want a chicken coop for Mother's Day next year. I haven't picked one out yet or decided if we could or at least have someone build us one. I want to get everything ready and learn before I dare get the chicks. I don't want to get the chickens BEFORE the coop. My eggman told me to get the coop and doctor it up for protection. Then, after reading about care and breads….THAT is when to get chickens. I have read some terrible reviews on some of these prefab chicken coops. Some say they tear up in 6 months. Even with a small amount of chickens. I only want 4. At least for now. THANK YOU for the book recommendations!!!

  4. My most thumbed chicken book is The Chicken Health Handbook by… who? Gail Damerow! She's wonderful! I've got the other two of her books you mentioned here and more (I'm a bookworm <sigh>), and read them all a few years ago, but I keep going back to the health book because poultry vets near me are few and far between – like 90 minutes and more away. I have one copy in the coop medicine cupboard and one in my house. It's written for non-medical folks, but I have healed my birds using it – not that I've had many sick birds. Mainly spraddle leg, but one chick got wry neck (basically epilepsy) from grain stored outside in metal cans in the Texas summer – won't do that again!
I do love Storey's guides to anything, and The Chicken Encyclopedia is very good, too, but I don't use them much anymore.
I will check out the Guide to Raising Farm Animals.
    Thanks for the video!

  5. Just looked up all three books and the are all available on the kindle books which is awesome for someone like myself with vision problems that make it hard to read a standard book and all three for around $30 that's even better. I'm adding them to my Christmas list. Thanks for the info. Do you have recommendations for essential oils too. Have a great day.

  6. I've watched a video you did a while back that was about other books that you suggest. You were sitting on your porch. I think there was a book about seed saving. Could you help me find it or post it to the FB group. Thank you!!!!!
