My family would chop up an onion put it in the middle of a plate put sugar on it and put a glass bowl over it making sure all the stuff was under the bowl. Then they would sit it on top of the wood stove. Syrup would seep out from under the bowl and we would take a tablespoon or two. Works just like mucinex.
Can't do liquor what else could I use
How do you store it? Do you keep on the counter or fridge and how long is it good for?
I remember my grandparents making this for me when young. For some reason I remember there being butter in it also.
I love your channel. When I was small we lived near Big Stone Gap VA. She would hang poke berries let them dry completely then mix with candies and liqueur for coughing or chest congestion

No lie this works great for COVID!
I only use Horehound candy instead of cough drops in the winter. Works great for me.

Why don't you try a coffee grounder to grind up the candy not sure if it work but you could try it I think the beans are that hard too that would make life a little easier
