  1. I grew a field of winter rye and am sorry I did. I had to use a bush hog to mow it, the roots where so thick I can't grow anything there, and was told it keeps growing. You can't remove it unless you DIG it out and go down far enough to get all the roots which defeats the original purpose… to provide some good top soil. It may be ok in a small raised bed,  where you can yank it all out by hand if you decide to, but not otherwise.

  2. My (small) bed is about at that stage, a tall winter cover crop mix. I'm in two minds now whether to terminate it completely or let it stay, just planting into it, maybe trimming back a touch. It's around a hazel sapling and I'll plant a couple of squashes. I think I'm leaning towards the latter because I love the party atmosphere there….. I'll do a little progress video on that one bed, I think.

  3. Hi Mark. My season is a little ahead of yours. I trimmed back my winter rye about 10 days ago. I used a hedge trimmer and worked from the top down producing a covering on the soil of small one inch cuttings of the rye as I moved down the plants to around 3" tall. The soil is easy to plant into because the pieces of rye cuttings are small. I assume my cuttings will decompose much faster this way. This is my first year following your technique. I'm not sure what will happen to the rye itself. Do you think my winter rye will die off at this point or resume growing? As always, thank you so much for all of your videos. They are my favorites!

  4. TY Mark for awesome videos. I have wood chips and leaves in my garden for a few years, unfortunately, covered with weeds and grass.
What is the best way to get rid of weeds? Organic spray? Will winter rye coke and clover coke them out? Cardboard over 20x40ft area???? Thanks!!

  5. Hi Mark! Love your videos, I've learned so much from you. Where can I find those sunflower seeds that you grow? I love the height and would love to try to grow them as I have very hard clay soil maybe this will help to break it up. Thank you!

  6. Thank You! You do a wonderful job on these videos! Have you ever looked at planting seeds in late fall early winter for spring germination? With the amount of volunteer plants I have every spring I think I might try planting some around Thanksgiving. Thank you again for sharing all of the information, and best wishes to you and yours. 7. Paul Gautsche says to cover your strawberries with wood chips in the winter and all the old plants will die off creating mulch and the younger plants will come through

  8. Which one did you use here? Lolium multiflorum or Secale cereals? They are pretty different. I assume you are using lolium multiflorum, since I don't see any big seed heads like the grain would have.

  9. This is one of the most usefull video series on no dig gardening I've seen. Thank you so much for the great educational content!
Wish I had disvovered these videos when I started 1 1/2 years ago; I'm looking forward to implement these insights.
