  1. When you finally get back far enough that you have to "cross the pond" that's when it gets difficult. For instance, my maiden name is Shane, but farther back, it was originally McShane, so makes it a bit difficult tracing backward. Got as far as Tyrone County, Ulster Province, in Ireland.

  2. Thank you for taking us with you, this is so interesting. Does the rest of your family get tired of us tagging along on your road trips 🙂 ..lol

  3. Genealogy is fascinating! I could only go so far here in the states. I'd love to travel to Ireland, Germany and Norway to find more records. Great video! Those headstones were fantastic! The dates blow me away!

  4. Im the grateful recipient of the nice tan skin yr round, high cheek bone child. Another awesome learning adventure with Patara TFS

  5. You can do a grave stone rubbing so you can read stone better vs photo that doesn't show up if youre keeping a scrap book. Just tape paper and use soft charcoal.

  6. as far back as the mid 1700's my fathers side of the family is all from the southern area.. Tennessee, Kentucky, NC, Arkansas, Texas, Georgia.  they originally came from Ireland, and almost every one of them in some way was in the army, fighting in the civil war, and revolutionary war.  my other side of the tree, my mothers, I am Russian, and unless I get someone private to work on my tree, I am stuck, I cannot research my grandmothers side into Russia, just know that my great grandparents arrived on a ship in 1907.  its fun to find your roots though, and how much you really DONT know

  7. Hey Patara, I was checking out my family's genealogy a while back and learned I had a great grand father that served as a Captain in the Virginia Militia under Gen. George Washington. I am now a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution. The SAR and the DAR will help you with your research you just have to ask. You never know you might be DAR.

  8. my ex-wife is Cherokee from her dad's side, and her mom was from Ireland, (plus whatever else mixed in). I was more excited about her Cherokee blood than she ever was. Met in HS, she was the most beautiful girl, it was love at first sight. There was always something different about her. She could meet a total stranger, and tell you what kind of a person they were, plus personal things about them, after a couple of minutes. It freaked quite few people out, over the years. Kind of a game for her.
