I just found 5 of them across my cherry tomatoes and pepper plants. Overnight just 1 of these completely devoured and stripped it bare of all its leaves top to bottom
First time I encountered one of these things I thought I'd been teleported into some strange insectoid version of Jurassic Park. I had no idea caterpillars could be so freaking huge. (though I guess there are probably some that are much bigger, probably in the warmer climates)
Find them, pick them, then leave them AWAY from the plant in a conspicuous spot for local BIRDS to help peak their appetites! Nature will do the rest w/o corproatist chemicals.
I did a test on the worms with cayenne powder and they ate all of it..then I heared garlic powder…they ate all of it..but they did start eating each other..maybe cause they cant stop eating or needed to chill the cayanne pepper…rather way I dont think those methods worked..
I read planting basil next to your tomatos also helps. Is this true?
You ever heard those horn worms hiss at you?!?! That's when I break out the 12 gauge with skeet shot and start blowing them to smithereens
Throw a bearded dragon in the garden
Meanwhile some alien is looking down at you thinking you’re disgusting. Thinking you own the planet
I picked two off of them the plants killed him with my shoe and I put diatomaceous earth sprinkled it on food grade diatomaceous earth and I haven’t had any more problems
Tomato hornworms turn into beautiful hummingbird moths that are extremely beneficial pollinators! Please don't kill them!
I have a ton of cabbage loopers this summer but I don't have a single brassica growing. They seem to love my cucumber leaves, beans, and tomatoes.
Learned a lot.. Got these worms and not sure what they were..
That is interesting because I have caught Blue Jays and mockingbirds eating my tomatoes as far as my region goes…I’m in Central Florida
I have Seen Local Birds, Eating My Growing Tomatoes So I Don't Think Encouraging Birds in your Garden is A Good Idea.
Had my first ever hookworm free spring-August…then 5 hooks appeared on my best cherry plant this week and wiped out 90% of it. Yayyyy
I just discovered this worm on our plants…that big scientific word you mentioned. Where do I get some of that?
thanks – i have no idea how these guys got into my garden as its a small patch in an urban environment. bacillus thuringiensis seems to have done the trick, along with picking them up with my hands.
I have had perfectly round holes in my tomatoes to the point I rarely have one I can keep. I have leaves. But today I saw my first hornworm with the white eggs on it and cannot see any others. Could that one hornworm be doing this?
I flick them and I feel like Omni man
Just cut them in half?
I hand pick and then throw them into my yard for the wild birds to eat.
My chickens went to town on the worms I found !!!
Are the poisonous?
Do they eat tomatoes too or just the leaves???
I had a couple of huge ones on my Vitex tree. My hand pruners made short work of them, though they seemed unhappy about it.
I leave them. The cardinals came hunting everyday.
