  1. I have not been able to find a reliable source of wood chips, as of yet, but I do have ample sources of bagged leaves. Last fall, I covered my 15' x 20' garden area in about 18" of leaves. I'm expecting big things this summer. The earthworms absolutely love my garden area now. I went from very few earthworms to earthworms everywhere with using just some grass clippings and leaves.

  2. this works for every weed problem buuutttt….. Bermuda grass. rhizomatic bastard. remember cardboard and mulch under 12 inches will not stop that stuff. you may kill all of it under the mulch but it will send runners an pop up at least 10 ft away. I traced one back.

  3. I really like your video's James – good work! Your garden is fantastic! I like what you said that the truth is simple and to get rid of weeds, just cover them. I really liked what you said that the earth is always trying to balance and repair itself and how it does that which permaculture intends to mimic. Good stuff, thank you!

  4. Big Fan James… I have a budding food forrest in Southern Cal. The wood chip decomposition is slow because we get zero rain and I spot water my trees and plants with bubblers. I'm learning tho, and you're a huge inspiration!

  5. Hii James,

i came from tropic country, u know whole year summer, warm, moist, lot of sun.. and lot of bugs and pest.

wood chips… 1st foresee able problem, grub that eat root of tree (they like wood chip moist dry soil), 2. TERMITE.. this is a serious problem.

anyway to overcome these 2 pest >?

    thanks
    andrew

  6. Great video! I am inspired and appreciate your encouragement. I live in the desert on what's basically a patch of rocky clay. Very little dirt.
Should I have a couple of loads of compost delivered so there is something underneath the paper to plant in? What depth would you suggest the compost should be?

  7. As the trees absorb all the nutrients from way down deep , and when mulched all those nutrients will get absorbed by the vegetable plants that otherwise will not be able to get it by themselves  because their roots are shorter and limited . and also mulch will balance your P.H. of your soil, to produce any kind of fruit trees or vegetables.

  8. Thanks for all you infos! One important question for me is why do you think gras is so bad for your garden? What do you call a weed and what not? How did you decide that? Did you question which plant is useful and which not? How did you make your conclusions? That would be good for me to know 🙂 Thank you!

  9. I have a question. You say to out contractors paper down to kill the weeds then to put wood chips down. Don't you need to buy soil to put on top of the paper before you put wood chips down?

  10. Thank you James!!! You answered all my concerns…This year is my first planting year in Florida and the result was a fiasco because all weeds all over the place. I will work using your advices

  11. James have you ever dealt with Mugwort? Holy Moly I can't get rid of it. I pull it up and it keeps coming back more than ever. Do I just need to mulch the fire out of it?

  12. Hi there. Thats for your video I think this will really help with my weed problem as well as help retain water. I always mulch my gardens bed but never thought to mulch the paths between and feed that soil. I was wondering though do you find that the mulch attracts slugs?

  13. Well done James in my opinion this was your best video by far , simple ,cool and carm good to see none of this false American hype bullshit , I'm so sick of all this American hype .keep it simple just the truth and fact bro
