Our fruit trees were crushed under a large fallen branch from a huge fig and my mission was to remove the debris and save the fruit trees – I named it “Operation Fruit Tree Rescue…”

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started SSM in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Isn’t it amazing how resilient some trees are? They can take a knock down, bend almost double, & straighten out again! Glad to see, that you didn’t have too much damage! Keep a smile on!

  2. Be careful with your fruit tree trimming. We screwed ours up and then learned the simple premise — trim in the fall for more growth, in the early spring for more fruit, and in the summer if you want no growth and hard little fruits that won't ripen. It takes a whole year to undo the mess we made with ours. Beware! (We are in a heavy tree area complete with Texas storms that love to crack down all those oaks — that crash on our fruit trees)
